Siam Bay Resort – Full Review

Overview

Siam Bay Resort is among the most quietly scenic resorts in Kai Bae, occupying the far southern tip of the beach where the sand is widest and the views clearest. With a large beachfront, spacious rooms, two pools and a friendly family-run feel, it appeals to travellers who want a relaxed island-holiday vibe rather than luxury or nightlife.

The resort has been welcoming guests for decades, and although some bungalows show their age, the combination of updated rooms, excellent beach access and a peaceful atmosphere delivers excellent holiday value.

Location – The Scenic Southern Tip of Kai Bae Beach

The location is one of Siam Bay Resort’s strongest assets. It sits at the southern curve of Kai Bae Beach, just before the headland that separates Kai Bae from Lonely Beach. This position means:

  • No traffic or noise
  • One of the quietest sandy sections of Kai Bae
  • Direct views across to Koh Man Nai and the smaller islands
  • Excellent swimming conditions with gentle waves

Despite its peaceful location, the main Kai Bae village  with restaurants, shops, coffee bars and convenience stores  is only:

  • 15 minutes’ walk on the beach
  • 5 minutes by scooter

This balance of seclusion + convenience is one of the main reasons guests return year after year.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere is relaxed, soft and friendly , ideal for people who want to unwind. Expect:

  • Families building sandcastles or splashing in the shallows
  • Couples lounging beneath palm trees
  • Long-stay guests who appreciate the peaceful natural setting
  • Evenings filled with the sound of waves rather than nightlife

Because it sits at the end of the bay, the resort feels very spacious; the beach rarely feels crowded even during peak season.

Rooms – Spacious, Varied & Comfortable

Siam Bay Resort offers a wide range of rooms and bungalows. Some are older traditional Thai bungalows; others are newer sea-view rooms and beachfront villas. The differences between room types are significant, so it’s worth choosing carefully when booking.

Main Room Types

  • Beachfront Villas: The best rooms – modern, spacious, with terraces right on the sand.
  • Sea View Rooms: Newer, bright rooms in low-rise buildings with balconies and great views.
  • Garden Bungalows: Older wooden or concrete bungalows set among greenery; quite old.
  • Family Bungalows: Large units with multiple beds, ideal for parents with children.
  • Hilltop Rooms: Spacious but further from the beach; great views, more walking.

All rooms include:

  • Air-conditioning
  • Private bathrooms with hot showers
  • Terrace or balcony
  • Fridge and kettle
  • Complimentary bottled water
  • Wi-Fi (strongest near reception and newer buildings)

While not luxury, rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious especially the beachfront villas.

Facilities

Siam Bay Resort provides an appealing set of facilities complemented by its extensive beachfront.

  • Two Swimming Pools: One beachfront, one on the hillside; both with loungers.
  • Beachfront Restaurant: Thai and Western dishes at reasonable prices.
  • Sunloungers & Parasols: Free for guests, plenty of space.
  • Kayak Rental: Paddle across to the small islands.
  • Scooter Rental: From reception.
  • Garden Areas: Spacious grounds and shade from mature trees.
  • Tour Desk: Snorkelling, boat trips, transfers and car rental.

Beach & Swimming

Kai Bae’s southern end offers a beautiful stretch of golden sand, and Siam Bay Resort sits directly on it. Swimming is excellent, especially from November to April, with:

  • Shallow, warm water
  • Safe conditions for children
  • Soft sandy seabed
  • Kayaking routes to the islands
  • Uninterrupted sunset views

Even at low tide, the beach remains wide and accessible.

How Siam Bay Compares

  • Kai Bae Beach Resort: More modern and polished; Siam Bay has the quieter location.
  • Sylvan Resort: More luxurious with a private beach; Siam Bay is better value.
  • The Chill: Chic boutique luxury; Siam Bay has more space and a softer atmosphere.
  • KB Resort: Similar beachfront vibe; KB is more central, Siam Bay is more peaceful.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Wide, peaceful beachfront
  • Great swimming conditions
  • Spacious, comfortable rooms
  • Family-friendly environment
  • Excellent sunsets

Cons

  • Some older rooms need updating

The best places to stay on Koh Chang

  • You can’t escape the fact that this is a hotel trying to escape its backpacker roots and move upscale – It has something of an ‘unfinished look’ – exposed plastic tubing here and there and a restaurant that has yet to upgrade its offering – That said, we have really enjoyed our stay here. We had one of the new seaview villas – not super luxurious, but good air-conditioning, free water, and a hot shower. The water around here is very shallow, so perfect for kids and weak swimmers like myself! At low tide you can walk over to the other resorts on Kai Bae beach like Sea View resort and Porn Bungalows for dinner – the food is better there.
The resort also has two infinity pools – the one up the hill is almost always deserted – lovely to have the place to yourself.
The resort is somewhat isolated, being right at the end of Kaie Bae beach so you do end up calling a lot of taxis to get to the roadside villages so factor that into your budget!
We were very happy here but we did notice one couple left after only just one day — It was clear they were expecting a luxury resort – THIS IS NOT THE CASE – I would call it more budget luxury — with that in mind, you will have a great time here.

  • my dearest kohchang… :)

this is going to be first time for me in Thailand and the second one for my wife. After she came back from a business trip there a couple of months ago you can imagine there were no other holiday options for us starting that breaking point except Thailand and… Koh Chang. To save the money for all kinds of fun stuff we decided to go independently without the full packages and tours and your site was one of the best resources that we were able to find online, mate. I will definitely tell all my folks thinking of going to Thai about Koh Chang, you and your web port… no promises as to a bottle of Cab Souv but if i find you on the isle (flying out of Almaty Friday this week) there will be a fine bottle of Kazakhstan cognac in my backpack for you… :)))

thanx a lot, anna & sergey
