The Beaches

Lonely Beach from The Sea

Finally the adventure down the west coast beaches comes to an end in Lonely beach.   From the southern end of Kai Bae you follow   a rocky headland a few hundred metres to the start of Lonely beach.     The beach itself is quite short, only a few hundred metres.   Add to this the fact that the southern half has seen better days, with a lot of sand having been washed away leaving stones visible at low tide and it means that Siam Beach Resort, which occupies the northern section, has the monopoly on having a great stretch of beach directly outside the resort.

Adjacent to Siam Beach is an as yet undeveloped plot of land which in turn is followed by Nature Beach Resort, once backpacker huts but now going upmarket, Bhumiyama Resort and finally Siam Hut – with it’s very basic fan bungalows. And that’s all the resorts on the actual beach.   Further south on the rocky shore you pass the large Treehouse restaurant and a couple of small ‘flashpacker’ bungalows before reaching Warapura Resort, probably the nicest mid range resort in this area.   Finally, 100 metres south of Warapura is Paradise Cottage which was once budget huts has been re-invented as a kind of Warapura clone, similar ’boutique’ idea but not quite as well done.

I could have continued south to Bailan but there isn’t much of interest by the sea ( but there is one new resort with pool under construction on the shore close to Bailan Hut ) and no good beach   in that area – except for the artificial beach at the Dusit Princess Resort which sticks out like a sore thumb.
