KB Resort is overall, one of the nicest beachfront bungalow resorts on the island.  As the resort has expanded over the years the owners have resisted the temptation to add concrete hotel blocks or cut down trees in order to cram in more bungalows.

The bungalows, whilst certainly not luxurious are a good 2-3 star standard and are clean and well maintained. Fan, AC, beachfront and family bungalows are available.

The bungalows are set in a lush garden area with mature trees providing plenty of shade.  The beachfront restaurant is also one of the best in the area with well priced Thai dishes and BBQ seafood.

A new pool and large teakwood family bungalows were built a couple of years ago as the resort was getting an increasing number of families staying. Roadside shops and restaurants are only a minute’s walk away.  In 2010 the beachfront AC bungalows were all renovated and for 2011-12 a new beach restaurant and reception area is currently under construction.

So, if you are looking for a good, but not luxurious, beachfront bungalow, you can’t really go wrong here.  No qualms in recommending it.

One word of advice, the staff aren’t very good at replying to emails – either book through an online agent or use Fax to contact he resort direct.

    Hi Ian,

Recently stayed at KB resort with family, 10 people. Had great time and would recommend this resort to anyone! Stayed for 9 nights. Low season meant we had beach and sea to ourselves most days, my parents stayed in beach villa and loved opening the doors to a gorgeous sea view each morning. Myself, 2 brothers and 2 sisters stayed in family villa, at the back of the resort near the swimming pool. This was great place to swim with my 3 year daughter which had a shallow kids area. The villas were beautiful with comfy beds and cleaned each day. Even though there was building work going on it never bothered us and it was completely relaxing environment. We were blessed with weather, hardly rained, and was mostly sunny every day.

The main street of Kai Bae had plenty of shops and restaurants (esp. Papas for brekkie and Kai Bae restaurant). We ended up in Kinky Ga Ga s bar more than once with his fish tank for your feet!! Had some great excursions * the 4 island snorkelling * the elephant treking * the cooking classes * the waterfall. All in all was a great trip and memorable for everyone. Hope to return soon!
ps thanks for the help with organising transfer from bangkok with evolution tour and the excellent info on this site.

    All the best,

    Colm

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for your website info. I have been staying at KB resort for 10 years now and I agree with your description and recommendation. I have one remark though which you might want to check out: at KB they tore down the restaurant and are building a hotel with a new restaurant included Three floors? Khun Dow told me she hopes its completed by Christmas. I do too as I booked several bungalows for my family. The food has always been very good and I hope all is ready when we come over. I stayed by late May and at that stage the entire hotel site was a big mess. If maybe have an update on their building progress that would be great.

    Thanks,

    Erik

Hi Erik They are still building, looks like a long way to go before the new building is completed. Maybe completed by December – but will need to speed up the work a bit I think

    Hi Ian and Erik,
I have tried to contact the resort this week, using email, fax and telephone, but no success in getting a respond from the contact info on their web-site.
Any Idea how to reach them, or maybe they are fully booked for the next 2-3 weeks so they do not reply?
    Thanks,
    Guli

Hi – i think it will be full. It is a very popular place. They usually dont reply to emails. But should answer the phone.

    Hello,

Any news regarding the renovation ? I am planning to go in March. Also would you recommand the twin villa ? Where is this villa in the resort ? ( nearby the pool ? Restaurant ? Beach ? )

  • Ian says:

The restaurant is open, but building work on hotel rooms which will be above and to the rear is ongoing. I guess it will be finished before next High Season. Not sure where the twin villa is, pretty sure it is in the garden. Not absolute beachfront and not by the pool – the family villas are poolside.
