Something for families with teenagers and anyone with fond recollections of Tarzan. A trip to the Treetop Adventure Park in Bailan, adjacent to the Mercure Koh Chang Hideaway Resort, is a great way to see the lush rain-forest up close.
During your treetop adventure, you will make your way from one tree to another by an assortment of rope bridges, tarzan swings, flying skateboards, tight rope walks and giant zip lines. If it sounds dangerous, don’t worry, the park has been designed, built, and is maintained, by French experts.
In France alone, where climbing trees is a common activity, there are more than 800 adventure parks. Treetop Adventure Park also operates in Krabi, Hua Hin and Kanchanburi. Their parks are officially inspected and certified by France’s authorized certification bodies and the instructor training also based on Operateur de Parc Acrobatique En Hauteur (OPAH) standards.
Before anyone is let loose on the courses, there is a mandatory briefing and training session. There are a total of 40 different obstacles for you to overcome as you work your way through the trees on the hillside overlooking Bailan bay. The park is totally environmentally friendly with no trees being cut down and no concrete foundations placed into the ground. In fact, trees”wear” the platforms and equipment as each tree has never been drilled into and is able to continue growing.
There are three courses. An easy course, with 9 obstacles, for children, this takes around 30 minutes for most kids to complete. The Blue course which is for beginners and takes around 30 mins to an hour. And a more challenging Red course. This also takes around 30 minutes to an hour to complete. In total, figure on spending a couple of hours at Treetop Adventure Park. It’s good fun and a good workout.
Before starting off all participants have to undertake a training session at ground level. The instructors will show you how to use the harness and safety equipment properly. The maximum number of people in a group is around 15 and each group is accompanied by an instructor who will be on hand to help out and offer guidance if required.
Participants need to wear comfortable clothing and tie back long hair. No flip flops or sandals are allowed. Wear trainers instead. Any jewelry or glasses, which may come off easily, must be removed or secured.
