Kacha Resort & Spa – White Sand Beach

Scorecard: Kacha Resort & Spa

Overall Rating: 8.0 / 10
A very central, very beachy mid-range resort with two pools and a busy holiday vibe. Not the newest kid on the block, but still a solid all-rounder.

  • Location: 9.0 / 10 – Bang in the middle of White Sand Beach, with rooms on both the beachside and hillside.
  • Rooms: 7.5 / 10 – Mix of newer and older; comfortable but some categories are starting to look their age.
  • Facilities: 8.5 / 10 – Two pools, kids’ pool, spa, small gym and activities, a classic “family resort” setup.
  • Beach: 8.7 / 10 – Good sandy frontage, but busier and narrower than the quieter north end.
  • Breakfast / Food: 8.0 / 10 – Big buffet, plenty of choice, a few “could be hotter / fresher” grumbles.
  • Service: 8.2 / 10 – Generally friendly and helpful, with the odd hiccup in busy periods.
  • Value for Money: 7.8 / 10 – Priced fairly for a 4-star beachfront spot, but some rooms feel a bit dated for the rate.

What We Liked

  • Super-central White Sand Beach location
  • Two pools: a beachfront pool and a bigger hillside pool with kids’ area
  • Lots of room types across beachside and hillside wings
  • Easy walk to shops, restaurants and night market

What Could Be Better

  • Some rooms and public areas are due a refresh
  • Beachfront pool can feel crowded in peak season
  • Not much of a “quiet escape” , it’s a busy resort in a busy area
  • Gym is on the small/basic side

Best For

  • Families who want pools, beach and convenience in one place
  • Holidaymakers who like a classic package-resort feel
  • First-time visitors who want to be in the heart of White Sand Beach

Summary:
A well-located, family-friendly resort with beach access, two pools and plenty going on. Ideal if you want a “no-brainer” White Sand Beach base and don’t mind that some of it is showing its age.

Kacha Resort & Spa – Full Review

Overview

Kacha Resort & Spa is one of the best-known mid-range resorts on White Sand Beach. Spread across both sides of the main road, it offers a beachfront wing with pool and gardens, plus a hillside wing with another larger pool and more rooms.

It’s very much a “holiday resort”: two pools, lots of families, buffet breakfast, and easy access to everything on White Sand. If you want boutique tranquility or super-modern design, this won’t be your dream hotel. But if you want a straightforward beach holiday with kids in tow, Kacha does the job nicely.

Location – Central White Sand Beach

You really can’t get much more central. Kacha sits almost exactly in the middle of White Sand Beach, with the seaside wing fronting the sand and the hillside wing rising up the slope behind the road.

This means:

  • Easy beach access from the seaside wing
  • Restaurants, bars, shops and the night market all within a short walk
  • Songthaews (pick-up taxis) passing constantly out front

The flip side is that this isn’t the quietest part of the island. Expect a bit of traffic, music and general White Sand buzz, especially in peak season.

Atmosphere

Kacha feels like a classic family beach resort. Around the pools you’ll see kids playing, inflatables bobbing, parents reading paperbacks and the occasional frazzled dad at the swim-up bar. It’s busy but generally good-natured.

The seaside wing has more of a “holiday postcard” feel with the pool right by the sand. The hillside wing is more practical with lots of rooms, a big pool and plenty of families. So it can feel a bit like a sun-soaked apartment complex.

Rooms – Seaside vs Hillside

There are a lot of different room types at Kacha, but the key divide is simple: seaside or hillside.

Seaside Wing

These are the rooms closest to the sand, spread between low-rise buildings and a few higher categories nearer the beach.

  • Big plus: short stroll from room to pool and beach
  • Décor: comfortable but more “older 4-star” than shiny and new
  • Some rooms have partial or full sea views
  • Bathrooms are fine but nothing fancy

If you care about being near the sea and don’t mind that the rooms aren’t super-modern, this is the better side.

Hillside Wing

Across the road and up the slope, the hillside wing has more of the newer stock and a bigger pool area.

  • Rooms generally feel a touch fresher than the older seaside categories
  • Pool here is larger with separate kids’ areas – very family-oriented
  • Some rooms on higher floors get partial sea or mountain views
  • You do have to cross the road each time you go to the beach

If you’re with kids and expect to spend more time by the pool than the sea, the hillside wing makes sense.

Facilities – Pools, Spa and More

Pools

Kacha has two main pools:

  • Beachfront pool: Right by the sand, good for a dip with a view but can feel cramped when it’s busy.
  • Hillside pool: Larger, with a separate children’s area, more loungers and more of a “resort hub” feel.

Neither pool is on KC Grande’s scale, but for most guests they’re more than adequate.

Spa, Gym & Kids’ Stuff

There’s a small spa offering Thai massages and basic treatments, plus a compact fitness room with the usual treadmills and a few machines. It’s enough to ease your conscience rather than justify a hardcore training camp.

Families get a kids’ pool area and general child-friendly vibe, but there’s no huge water park or elaborate kids’ club.

Food & Drink

Breakfast is a decent-sized buffet with Thai and Western staples with egg station, sausages, fruit, salads, rice dishes and so on. Most people are happy; a few wish the hot food was a bit hotter.

There’s an on-site beachfront restaurant and bar on the seaside wing, plus easy walking distance to countless other places to eat along the road and beach.

The Beach

The beachfront wing opens onto the main stretch of White Sand Beach. It’s sandy, swimmable and lively – plenty of people, but also plenty going on.

Compared to the quieter far north (KC Grande’s end and White Sand Beach Resort), the sand here is:

  • A bit narrower at high tide
  • More crowded, especially in high season
  • Better for people-watching and wandering between beach restaurants

If you want a peaceful, semi-private feel, this isn’t it. If you want classic “busy Thai beach with everything nearby”, it’s great.

How It Compares to Other White Sand Resorts

  • KC Grande: Bigger, more pools, better beach at the quieter northern end and generally fresher rooms but also pricier.
  • 15 Palms: Smaller, more boutique, with a much more intimate atmosphere but far fewer facilities.
  • The Erawan: Modern hotel just off the road with a rooftop pool and no direct beachfront. Better for couples on a slightly lower budget.

Kacha sits comfortably in the middle with more facilities than the boutique places, but less polish than the top-end resorts, and a price tag to match.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Excellent central location on White Sand Beach
  • Two pools, including a good hillside pool for families
  • Lots of room options to suit different budgets
  • Easy access to shops, restaurants and transport

Cons

  • Some rooms and public areas are looking a bit tired
  • Beachfront pool feels small and crowded at busy times
  • Not ideal if you want peace and quiet
  • Gym and spa are more token than top-tier

Who Should Stay Here?

Perfect for:

  • Families wanting a central base with pools and beach access
  • Holidaymakers who like a classic resort feel
  • First-time visitors who want to be in the heart of the action

Not ideal for:

  • People wanting a quiet, hideaway-style stay
  • Travellers who prefer very modern, freshly renovated rooms
  • Anyone who dislikes busy, central locations

Value for Money

For a 4-star beachfront resort in the centre of Koh Chang’s busiest beach, Kacha offers reasonable value. You’re not getting brand-new rooms or ultra-luxury, but you are getting pools, beach, breakfast and convenience rolled into one. If you’ll use all of that, the price makes sense.

Final Thoughts

Kacha Resort & Spa isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s a friendly, functional mid-range resort in a prime spot, with enough facilities to keep families happy and enough comfort to keep most holidaymakers content.

If you want a straightforward beach holiday on White Sand, with the option to flop by the pool or wander out for dinner without ever needing a taxi, Kacha is a very easy choice.

  • We stayed in the newly open Hillside part in December 09. Very family orientated, especially by the pool. If you were to spend few hours aroun the pool it does indeed feels like you’re in package holiday resort in Costa del Sol rather than Koh Chang. The other pool by the beach side is far too small and over crowded.

Staff werent particularly helpful or friendly, which is unusual for Thais. The room was nice, but having spent the same amount of money in Chang Buri down the road for much better quality rooms couple of nights before….we felt abit let down.

Worth staying if you get a good deal otherwise save your money for something better!

  • 2009 was our second year in a row to the Kacha resort which has changed for the worse. Slow service (over an hour to get a sandwich which arrived eventually with no apology). Some staff were surly and rude (but certainly not all). Not all the facilities advertised were available. For the money you must pay to “enjoy” this resort we all felt rather cheated this year, and will not return.

P.S. Avoid star beauty and salon which is located very near the resort. They are not to be trusted.

  • My kids loved this resort. 2010 will be our third time on koh Chang and third time at Kacha. Enjoy!
