Chang Buri Resort & Spa – Full Review

Overview

Chang Buri Resort sits on the hillside at the quieter southern end of White Sand Beach. It offers big rooms, sweeping sea views and one of the nicest infinity pools in the mid-range category. What it does not offer is a beach—out front is a rocky shoreline.

For travellers who value peace, views and a good pool over beachfront, Chang Buri is a strong contender.

Location – South White Sand, Quiet and Elevated

The resort is:

  • 5-10 minutes’ walk from the main White Sand strip
  • Located on a hillside with lots of greenery
  • Convenient for taxis, though less walkable than mid-beach resorts

The upside: quieter, more relaxing, better views.
The downside: no beach and a bit of a hike to restaurants.

Atmosphere

Chang Buri has a laid-back, almost tropical-jungle feel. The hillside gardens are lush, pathways wind through greenery, and the pool area overlooks the bay with excellent sunsets.

It tends to attract couples, long-stay guests and older travellers rather than families with young kids.

Rooms – Spacious and Comfortable

Rooms are generally very large for the price. Décor varies but usually includes:

  • Big beds with plenty of room to spread out
  • Balconies with sea or garden views
  • Good air-con and comfortable bathrooms
  • Older colour schemes in some categories

The “Beach Annex” rooms across the road are more modern but lack the hillside views.

Facilities

The Hillside Pool

The highlight of the resort: a large, curved infinity pool with views across the bay. Plenty of space, loungers and shade.

Beach Annex Pool

Across the road, near the rocky shore, is a smaller pool for guests in the annex building.

Spa

A decent on-site spa offers Thai massages, facials and basic treatments. Prices are fair for a hotel spa.

Other Facilities

  • Restaurant serving Thai and Western dishes
  • Pool bar
  • Tour desk

The Beach (or Rather, Lack of One)

Chang Buri does not have a sandy beach. The shoreline in front is rocky, with waves breaking onto stones. You can’t swim here.

To reach the nearest swimmable beach:

  • Walk 10 minutes north to central White Sand Beach, or
  • Take a 2-minute taxi

If a beach is essential, choose KC Grande, Kacha or 15 Palms instead.

How It Compares to Other Resorts

  • Kacha Resort: More facilities and beachfront, but far busier and noisier.
  • KC Grande: Better pools, beachfront and more modern; also significantly pricier.
  • 15 Palms: Stylish boutique beachfront option if you prefer smaller resorts.
  • The Erawan: More modern hotel-style rooms, but also lacks a beachfront.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Great hillside pool with sea views
  • Spacious rooms at good prices
  • Peaceful compared to central White Sand
  • Nice greenery and sunset views

Cons

  • No sandy beach
  • A bit far to walk to restaurants and shops
  • Older room décor in parts of the resort
  • Some steps and slopes, so not ideal for anyone with mobility issues

Who Should Stay Here?

Perfect for:

  • Couples wanting a calm, scenic base
  • Travellers who prefer swimming pools to beaches
  • Guests seeking good value for large rooms

Not ideal for:

  • Beach-focused travellers
  • People who want shops at their doorstep
  • Anyone wanting freshly renovated, modern interiors

Value for Money

You get a lot of space and a great pool for the price. The lack of a beach is the main compromise. If you’re okay with that, Chang Buri is very good value.

Final Thoughts

Chang Buri is a comfortable, good-value hillside resort with a standout pool. It’s a great option if you don’t need to be on the sand and prefer escaping the crowds.  But there is a small beer bar area – Little Pattaya – very close to the resort.  This can get a bit noisy in High Season, you’ll notice some comments about this guests’ reviews.

If you want a beach, choose elsewhere. If you want views, value and calm, it’s well worth considering.

  • We stayed on the beach-side hotel. We stayed for 2 nights before moving to Kacha Hotel up the road. Loved every minute of our stay and wish we hadn’t moved!

Although you cannot walk straight onto the beach the hotels pool is absilutely beautiful with amazing view, good spot for sunbathing and watching the sun go down. Very clean everywhere, staff are all exceptionally friendly but not pretencious and extremely helpful. The room was really lovely and stylish. Housekeeping did a good job of little finishing touches -much appreciated.

    Overall, very peaceful and classy.
