Santhiya Tree Koh Chang Resort
(This resort was known as Panviman Resort up until September 2016.)
Santhiya Tree Koh Chang Resort is located in the centre of Klong Prao beach. This is one of the quietest areas of beach on the west coast of Koh Chang. Even in high season you will only see a couple of dozen people out of the beach within a few hundred metres of the resort.
There are no pushy beach vendors and no rows of deckchairs on the sand. Just a couple of small beach massage places, a couple of low key restaurants and couple of laid back backpacker bungalow huts nearby, where you can also get sensibly priced food and drinks.
It’s a good spot to get away from it all. The negatives are that the design of the resort maybe a bit too over the top ‘mock temple’ for some. And that the quiet location means that it is a bit of a trek to get to the local shops.
Figure on a 15 minute walk to the main road. However, the hotel does have a free shuttle service but this doesn’t run all day, only at selected times. And finally, the room rates are amongst the highest on the island.
The new pool access rooms allow you to cool off right outside your room and are worth paying a premium for as the main pool area can get crowded during High Season.
If a mid-size, 50 room resort in a quiet spot is paramount then go for it, you’ll get a good 4 star standard of service and room on a long quiet stretch of beach.
As of late 2017 a new riverside hotel block is under construction. Noise isn’t an issue but when it is completed it will double the capacity of the resort. The highlight of the new block will be 40 metre long pool looking down over the river and to the mountains inland.

When it comes to a hotel and resort, I have high standards and great expectations. So, I picked Panviman Resort during our recent return visit to Koh Chang. My family and I came here for my birthday. I was very pleased with their service. It was my first time to stay here but the third time for my brother who sold me on choosing it.
In Thai, Panviman means “paradise alike.” And it was indeed a paradise, considering the tranquility it offered us. We stayed in two adjacent deluxe rooms with sea view and a spa bath. Upon our arrival, the hotel staff was very polite. They helped us to get through check in procedures in a jiffy.
Our rooms were pristine. Just like in the photos. The rooms did allow us to get a great view of the sea and sand each morning and night. We stayed here for a few days. And we’d definitely come back, when we have another chance.
It was a lovely place as it’s located in a secluded area, which is away from the busy areas of the island. The kids and older adults loved that we were in a quiet, peaceful place of Panviman.
Hands down it’s one of the best hotels. I immediately became a fan. The minute we arrived there to the minute we left, we received first-class service. From the people in the reception area to the housekeeping staff, they always said hello and had a smile on their faces when we meet them anywhere in the hotel.
Even though it was fully booked during our stay there, the place was still nice and quiet. We never felt that it was crowded. Hence, it was really suitable for couples and those who like to think clearly or get away from the noisy streets of their hometown.
The entire area of the resort was safe and it was covered by CCTV everywhere. This truly made us feel safe all the time, even if we’re still out late at night.
The beach had a nice view. Compared with other resorts at the south end of the beach, this one has far fewer tourists making it an ideal place to have a private party with family friends, just like we did. When we needed to go to the main road, the hotel provided a shuttle bus to solve the inconvenience of having to take a walk. But walking from the hotel to the main road was a nice idea, especially for me and my brother so we could get the exercise that we needed after over-indulging the night before.
Their beach was perfect for long walks. It has crystal clear water that was so inviting. Our room was a few meters away from the pool but it was accessible. I had a swim outside to help me cool down in the pool. The best thing was that they had Jacuzzi in the pool. What more can you ask for, right?
The food here was fantastic. We couldn’t complain. Even though their booze was a bit expensive, the cocktails were worth the money. They don’t skimp on the top shelf alcohol.
Likewise, the buffet breakfast was amazing. Plenty of choice and a good selection of freshly made bakery items too. My favorite part of the day was to have breakfast and drink coffee while looking at their beautiful beach. It was simply beautiful and serene. The restaurant’s staff wasn’t fluent in English. But they did understand what we were trying to stay. They still provided great service to each of their guests.
Unlike some other hotels within the area, Panviman Resort provides different towels each day. They were folded in different shapes and placed on our beds.
We’ll surely return to the new Santhiya Resort one day as all the family loved their time there. I’m not sure when though, as thew world’s a big place and there’s lots of other islands to do.
