Klong Prao

The Dewa Koh Chang Resort

The Dewa Koh Chang, Klong Prao beach

The Dewa is definitely one of the most interestingly designed of Koh Chang’s luxury resorts.   It’s bare concrete and funky, sparkling tiling fall into the ‘love it or hate it category’.   Fortunately, most guests seem to love it.

This isn’t really a family resort.   It’s more suited to couples and the decor isn’t soft and fluffy.   The interiors of the room are bare concrete with Thai silk and natural wood finishes and decor.   Plus artwork that doesn’t fall into the usual ‘scenic sunset’ or ‘beach vista’ category.  It’s more abstract and eclectic.  You’ll love the bathrooms and sliding glass walls which allows you to climb into the bath from the bedroom, should you wish.

The resort is only 100 metres from the Emerald Cove and both receive similarly very positive reviews and ratings from guests.   Nothing much between them in terms of location or service.   But in terms of having personality The Dewa wins easily.  And if you want to splash out, the two floor beach villas are well worth it for a special occasion.

Possible downsides are that the rooms is that most don’t have a sea view, as the resort is on a relatively narrow strip if land.  So only guests staying in the super luxury beachfront villas get uninterrupted sea views.   Likewise the pool is hidden from the beach, so no views whilst you are lounging poolside – but the pool is 700sqm and so is rarely crowded.

The narrow beachfront area can become a penguin colony in High Season, as it also caters to guests staying at the resort’s sister hotel, Ramayana, which doesn’t have it’s own beach. Nearby there are some good beach restaurants and also a few other large resorts.  But if you want to find a quieter spot to swim, just walk north along the sand for 10 minutes.  Klong Prao village is under 10mins walk away, take a shortcut through the nearby Blue Lagoon bungalows, so finding inexpensive Thai food in local restaurants.

Want luxury & service? Want a resort with character? Bored of generic mock ‘Thai temple  style’ resorts and want something unique? Book The Dewa.

😀 - When I arrived the power was out as there was a storm the night before but the staff were warm and welcoming I had a large room with a plush bed and nice linen wifi was a bit spotty in the 4 days I was there , food was decent and views gorgeous. 😞 - The wifi service could be improved.

Disappointing. 😀 - Spacious but empty rooms. 😞 - The resort looks as if years ago, it was very nice but they stopped maintenance decades ago. What may once have been a vibrant vacation destination now suffers from a clear sense of faded glory. In our family room we had two twin beds, only one with a mosquito net (with holes in it). Unfortunately, the AC was not able to cool the room a comfortable temperature. Breakfast was mediocre, the beach was littered with debris, plastic toothbrushes, lighters and other rubbish from sea. We even stepped in fuel oil on the beach (with bare feathers). This was the most expensive resort from our Thailand trip so expectations were high, however, the hotel was the worst. I would not recommend coming here.

A lovely relaxing place away from the noise 😀 - Excellent for a quiet relaxing getaway. Several restaurants on the same beach, lovely pool, lovely staff. The room was beautiful. Super high ceiling, super clean and comfortable.

A good family resort on a secluded location 😀 - Lovely hotel , beautiful scenery , friendly and helpful staff. A bit secluded location as Koh Chang is a very big island. If you’re looking for a quiet place for a family stay it is a good place. The only con is a not very powerful AC that doesn’t really cool the big room enough.
