Klong Prao

The Dewa Koh Chang Resort

The Dewa Koh Chang, Klong Prao beach

The Dewa is definitely one of the most interestingly designed of Koh Chang’s luxury resorts.   It’s bare concrete and funky, sparkling tiling fall into the ‘love it or hate it category’.   Fortunately, most guests seem to love it.

This isn’t really a family resort.   It’s more suited to couples and the decor isn’t soft and fluffy.   The interiors of the room are bare concrete with Thai silk and natural wood finishes and decor.   Plus artwork that doesn’t fall into the usual ‘scenic sunset’ or ‘beach vista’ category.  It’s more abstract and eclectic.  You’ll love the bathrooms and sliding glass walls which allows you to climb into the bath from the bedroom, should you wish.

The resort is only 100 metres from the Emerald Cove and both receive similarly very positive reviews and ratings from guests.   Nothing much between them in terms of location or service.   But in terms of having personality The Dewa wins easily.  And if you want to splash out, the two floor beach villas are well worth it for a special occasion.

Possible downsides are that the rooms is that most don’t have a sea view, as the resort is on a relatively narrow strip if land.  So only guests staying in the super luxury beachfront villas get uninterrupted sea views.   Likewise the pool is hidden from the beach, so no views whilst you are lounging poolside – but the pool is 700sqm and so is rarely crowded.

The narrow beachfront area can become a penguin colony in High Season, as it also caters to guests staying at the resort’s sister hotel, Ramayana, which doesn’t have it’s own beach. Nearby there are some good beach restaurants and also a few other large resorts.  But if you want to find a quieter spot to swim, just walk north along the sand for 10 minutes.  Klong Prao village is under 10mins walk away, take a shortcut through the nearby Blue Lagoon bungalows, so finding inexpensive Thai food in local restaurants.

Want luxury & service? Want a resort with character? Bored of generic mock ‘Thai temple  style’ resorts and want something unique? Book The Dewa.

Disappointed 😀 - The staff was very nice and friendly. I saw a nice snake. 😞 - The accommodation was very outdated and many things were damaged such as air conditioning, coffee machines, furniture etc. There is no real difference between the normal bungalows and the beachfront bungalows except for the very overpriced price. The breakfast was always the same, and the quality was very poor. I expected a lot more for the price. I am very disappointed.

Great place and lovely views all around of the other local islands 😀 - Lovely pool and a cracking beach, close to the Koh Mak ferry and equally close to the "Ghost Ship" site just up the road and well worth the visit (dont listen to people saying you cant get in) for a mere 100 baht. Staff here love to serve and everything seems to be available at a simple request. Food was top notch and at a reasonable price. 😞 - Nothing we didnt like, but then again we like to go with the flow.

The perfect place for a relaxed stay with your kids 😀 - 1. The Staff!!! - We were looked after so well by the staff especially Supu, Aki, Tam and Khetta. Our kids really miss them and they went out of their way to look after us. Lovely people and really made the trip so enjoyable for us due to their friendliness and kindness. 2. The Location - being at the end of the road means it's very quiet and relaxed. If you like being away from it all and don't mind not being near any shops this is the place for you (some nice little bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance) 3. The Layout of the hotel/resort means you can feel very private and quiet in your room but meet other guests at the restaurant/bar and pool which is a good balance. The pool is perfect balance of being fun for kids and adults and you can sit on the loungers and watch one kid in the pool and one of the beach which is perfect for parents' reading time. 😞 - It wasn't a problem for us at all but just to help others get a true picture of the place and work out if it's for them... The resort building itself was very clean and comfortable but it is showing some signs of age and could maybe do with some renovation work but personally we'd rather take this for the price and friendless of the staff and other guests (like for like chilled families like us) over some higher priced 'luxury/perfect' place. We found after a few days we did need to get out and about a bit and used scooter, taxi, sea kayak and rental Jeep to do so as with kids it's a bit of a trek to the 7/11 so bear this in mind. Again we felt the quietness of the place more than made up for the inconvenience. Also maybe due to our visit being after the main Christmas/New Year season they tended to close the bar/restaurant around 22:00 which actually was totally fine for us and they're were bars open later nearby off the main beach. We actually liked how everything on the beach closed down and allowed for a quiet starry walk at night.
