Despite only being open since January 2019, BeachBox @ Koh Chang has racked up a very impressive number of super-positive reviews. (Despite the box-like rooms not actually being on the beach.)
But fear not, BeachBox is located just one minute’s walk from the laid back Hat Sai Noi beach on the south coast of Koh Chang. The accommodation is in stark, concrete and glass boxes. There are fan and air-conditioned rooms.
The largest have two Queen size beds, making them ideal for a family travelling on a budget. All are very simple and free from clutter.
The larger bungalows have one floor to ceiling glass wall which makes the rooms brighter than they would normally be – as they’re surrounded by tropical greenery. Inside furniture is limited to the very bare essentials. Plus a wall mounted flat screen TV and mattress on a concrete base, rather than actual bed.
There isn’t a restaurant, although cold drinks are available,. But guests can get breakfast at numerous restaurants on Hat Sai Noi or Klong Kloi beach.
From a business perspective it’s a very practical design. Easy to keep clean and tidy and unlikely to go out of fashion any time soon. And for guests, the price is cheap but they get good value for money and can stay in a far more modern bungalow that they would be able to afford elsewhere on the island.
As with many of the top rated resorts, what sets them apart from other places, and ensures the continuing great reviews, is the owner and the staff. And BeachBox are certainly doing things the right way, with many guests commenting on how friendly and helpful the staff are.
Overall, a definite recommendation for a budget bungalow in the south of Koh Chang. No real downsides other that no sea views and not being beachfront, but for the price, there’s nothing to really complain about.
