How to Make a Trip to Klong Plu Waterfall a Bit More Exciting

Top of Klong Plu waterfall

Klong Plu waterfall is the main waterfall on the west coast of the island.  It costs 200 Baht to get into , as it’s in the National Park, so if you are going there you want to get your money’s worth.  The Visitor’s Centre near the entrance won’t keep you for long, the highlights are stuffed Sea turtle and a pickled deer.  There’s also  a plastic box with some dead bugs inside.

Most people walk along the shady path by the river to the waterfall, take a photo or two, have a swim and then wander back along the same path to the entrance.  And that’s a very pleasant way to spend an hour or two.

But if you want to get  a bit more adventurous, then you can take the signposted ‘Nature Trail’ , a footpath that takes you on a loop onto the hillside and back to the  entrance.  It’s a longer walk and involves some steep uphill sections, but it’s also very quiet and gives you the feeling of trekking in the jungle – albeit along a wide, easy to follow path.

And, if that’s still too tame for you, you can take an unmarked, but obvious path, leading off the Nature Trail to the top of Klong Plu waterfall.  The path is unmarked as I’m pretty sure that some idiot would fall off the top of the waterfall  if the fact you could get up there relatively easily was advertised.

When you are heading up the hillside at the start of the ‘Nature Trail’ you’ll find the path first heads straight up the hill, then veers to the right and finally heads back to the left and towards the waterfall.  Around this time you’ll see that someone had kindly placed a white arrow on a tree indicating the direction you should go to continue following the trail .  On the left of the tree is where you’ll spot the path to the top of the waterfall. At present, there is a piece of wood across the start of the trail, but nothing specifically stating that you can’t walk along it.

This path then heads downhill to the river at the top of the waterfall.  From where you can stand on the rocks and look down  on those below who don’t read this website.

  • Possibly a knee-jerk reaction to that German woman who got lost there. Maybe it will come back after high-season.

  • Yes. Correct. I was there a couple of weeks ago and saw it was all roped off. That’s a pity it was a nice walk.

  • That nature trail was closed off today with a sign saying 1000 baht fine if they catch you up there. It’s the one about 20-50 metres from the waterfall, on the right-hand side as you’re walking towards the waterfall, am I right?
