Pearl Beach

Penny’s Bungalows, Pearl Beach

Pennys Bungalows, Pearl beach Review

Penny’s Bungalows is a compact, 28 room resort by the sea on Pearl Beach. It is a clean, comfortable 2 star and the rooms, which are built around a seafront swimming pool, all come complete with cable TV, wifi, hot water and aircon.

So you are by the sea, with airconditioning and at an affordable price. which probably explains its popularity with families.   The downsides are that ‘Pearl Beach‘ has no sand – only stones, so it isn’t easy to swim in the sea but if you do then you will disover a nice little coral reef close to the shore.   Ideal for snorkelling on calm days.

The resort is about 400 metres from the main road, accessible by a paved access road, so catching a pick up truck taxi to other beaches is easy enough.  It just requires a 5 minute walk.

So if you just need a centrally located spot to base yourself and don’t want to pay over the odds for a room or unnecessary luxuries, then it’s a good choice.   Just don’t expect great service or the most modern rooms.  They’re functional rather than designer chic.

High Season 2017 – 18 room rates are from 1,200 – 1,400 Baht / night for the Standard and Superior bungalows.

  • I just want give a short management response to the
    comment from Rob:

It is right, there was heavy rainshowers during his stay
and we apologize this problem with the roof.

All the other problems what Rob is listing was total exorbitant or made by himself
and his Thai girlfriend, sorry, but if a couple have trouble 24 hours per day than it is difficult to find a relax, specially if your only
way to discuss something is yelling around.

Fortunately we have usually guests with another attetude

    Management of Penny’s resort

  • I stayed at this resort very recently – 27th Dec ’09 – 3rd jan ’10….and no..we wasn’t offered a motorbike as advertised!..However…..

One week. I needed ONE week of relaxation after living in BKK for 5 years, and having my first holiday in 4 years. (busy me!)

In this one week – on arrival – our ‘1st’ room was dirty, so much so a huge cobweb remained on the wall for 2 days; the shower and sink drains were blocked. They unblocked them on request – but were soon blocked again a day later.
Stains and marks on all curtains and walls….

We had heavy rain for first two days – no probs, don’t mind at all….Unless the rain comes in from the ceiling and onto our heads. It did.

We were kindly given a second room on request. Also dirty and ill maintained.
Windows wouldn’t open, and worst of all – we had to tell reception every time we wanted a shower – so they could come and repair it. This happened four times – until my continual complaining finally got a new shower installed.

We ate twice on the resort – hugely expensive – I know Thai food and how much it is – and yes, naturally expect to pay more on holiday – but three times more than anywhere else on the island? Also had to wait 50 minutes (no exaggeration here..) for an orange juice, and a lemon juice. The meal arrived ten minutes later…..bland, cold, and nothing like real Thai food.

Laundry?…..was promised by six in the evening – arrived at 9. My girlfriends arrived ….AFTER 3 DAYS!!!…not ironed, as requested, but screwed up into a plastic bag. And charged 80 THB a kilo for the privilege. Later I discovered that anywhere else on the island – 30 THB per kilo. Great.
Management finally gave me a 10% discount. How reasonable of them.
    My advice?….DON’T BOTHER!
