Siam Beach Resort

Siam Beach Resort occupies the prime, private location at the northern end of Lonely Beach on Koh Chang.   The location, about 400 metres north from the nearest resort ensures that guests enjoy peace and quiet.

Although there is plenty of late night bars and restaurants at the backpacker area at the southern end of the beach, most guests come here to unwind, laze on the beach and swim in the sea rather than to party. It is therefore very popular with families and guests of all ages.

All rooms have AC, western bathroom, cable TV an are furnished in a bright contemporary tropical style.   Plus all have sea views.   Between the low rise hotel blocks and the beach lies the swimming pool with large jacuzzi and sun deck.

However, pride of place at Siam Beach Resort goes to the handful of pool villas where you can literally step out of your room and onto the beach or enjoy a soak in the private plunge pool as you watch the sun go down.  These are probably the best value pool villas on the island.

In addition to the hotel rooms and villas there are also remnants of the old backpacker days in the form of wooden ,airconditioned bungalows which occupy the hillside above the resort.   These are a bit faded but are available to rent for anyone on a budget for only 1,000 baht/night.   Don’t expect anything other than a basic bungalow, but the views are definitely 5 star.

Good all round resort for a mid-price family holiday – but as with other resorts in the area getting out and about to other beaches   can be a bit of a hassle as the shared pick-up truck taxis don’t run as frequently as they do on the busier beaches to the north. The only other downside is that the staff don’t get great reviews.

My overall stay here was great. I was at Siam Beach Resortfor a holiday to help me forget about everything that has happened. I just lost my best friend because of cancer and I needed to be alone by myself and Siam Beach gave me that rare opportunity to let everything go.

The location of Siam Beach was perfect enough. It’s just far away from the roads and busy streets of Koh Chang. And yes, far away from all activities in the island. Some people wouldn’t like it while others, like me, love it. The resort wasn’t built on the mountainside if that’s what you’re thinking. Rather, it was located fronting a beach. That’s why it’s called beach resort. :-)

The resort offers a wealth of options for guests who want to sun-soaked or seek adventure within the area. Trekking is a great choice although I didn’t try it. I dod the Elephant ride and snorkelling day trips.

Each guest room here is provided with privacy in mind, of which I really love. My room was deluxe with one queen-size bed. I love the idea of the room – it embraces the natural surroundings. It has natural light. In the evening, when the sun was out, my room was well-lit. It wasn’t too bright but it wasn’t too dark, either. It was just lovely.
Although my room was good for two, I think five people could be accommodated here. It was that big that I could have my yoga or Zumba session here. The architecture style of the room wasn’t all pure white. It had a touch of Thai and French. Well, that’s my opinion.

Everything was almost perfect until I saw a lizard on the ceiling. I hate lizards. I tried to lead it out of my room but it wouldn’t. So I asked the resort’s staff to remove it. I wasn’t sure what they did but the lizard was gone when I looked above.

The resort’s staff, who helped me with my luggage upon arrival was helpful.

My room was on the upper floor. It was a short walk to pool. Did I mention that their pool had a Jacuzzi? Yes, it had. It was clean and the water was crystal clear. It’s too rare to find such considering the pool is always full each day.

I loved hanging out by the pool and just unwinding. I also enjoyed going to the beach and watched the emerald sea of Koh Chang. I noticed that there was no portion for kids in the pool. But the depth of the pool wasn’t too deep, so I think my nephew could handle it when he’d decide to come with me the next time I travel here.

Dining options at Siam were limited. They have beachfront restaurant and a bar. But that was it. However, the food that they serve was great. I never felt the need to go to other restaurants to satisfy my growling, hungry stomach. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, the place did offer a relaxed setting looking at the beach.

When I got so tired of going to the restaurant, I just ordered food through room service. Although it took an hour before it was delivered, I enjoyed my dinner because of the sumptuous meal. Well, it was a bit expensive but it was all worth it. Enjoying my dinner while watching the gorgeous sunset in my room was something that I won’t forget very soon.

Although the resort had limited water sports activities here, snorkeling can be done, provided you have your own gears. If you don’t have them, you could rent in a nearby resort and have your snorkeling activity there. You could just ask the resort’s staff as to the best place where you could rent snorkeling gears. But I would suggest bringing your own.

Anyway, I had a lovely stay at Siam. Perhaps, if I have another chance to be here, I’d be bringing my family and boyfriend.
