Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort

Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort

Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort is one of the most popular resorts on the island.  (Centara is a large Thai hotel chain with resorts across the country and elsewhere in S.E. Asia)  There are 77 spacious bright cabanas, some featuring outdoor bathrooms and at the rear of the resort are a couple of large blocks of hotel style rooms.

Only a handful or bungalows have sea views but unless you want to also overlook the busy pool area and restaurant you may as well go for a quieter garden bungalow. Note that the hotel style rooms ( both Superior & Deluxe) are all well back from the beach and have their own pool area.  This pool is much larger than the beachfront pool and is usually quiet, as the majority of guests head to the beach.

Room at Centara Tropicana Resort

The large number of rooms means the beach area can get crowded during high season. But the staff arrange a lot of activities for guests to keep them busy and away from lazing around doing nothing all day.  There’s aerobics, beach football and volleyball, Muay Thai etc on offer daily.  If you have young kids that need to be kept occupied, then Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort also has a kids club that gets good reviews from parents.

One cool initiative that I haven’t seen elsewhere is the ‘Green Day’.  If you decide you can go a day without having your room cleaned and towels changed, then you get a 150 Baht food and beverage voucher  – which is enough for a free beer in the beach restaurant.

The beach directly outside the resort is pretty good. There are quite a few stones and some dead coral at low tide.  And there’s a handful of beach restaurants just to the south, around 3 minutes walk away. If you want a quiet area to sunbathe or swim, a 10 minute walk north, past the Santhiya Tree Resort brings you to nicer stretch of beach which never gets crowded.

Inland, Klong Prao village is only a few minutes walk away – small shops, cheap restaurants, bank, ATMs etc are all found by the roadside.

All in all though, it’s a good choice for families.

Nice place, to sit and have breakfast in the morning on the beachfront 😀 - Was a nice place but it’s mosquito heaven with all the trees 😞 - The rooms was very dark and needs better lighting as I struggled to find things and iron my clothes when the sun went down.

A very good value resort with top quality staff at a reasonable price 😀 - Probably the best resort on the superb Klong Prao beach - pay a little extra for a good cabana and you won’t be disappointed. The staff are superb and breakfast is always a great start to the day 😞 - Very little to dislike - maybe provide more than two small bottles of water each day

Aftermath from covid 😀 - Staff Breakfast Outside grounds well taken care of 😞 - Musky smell Tired, old room in need of repair (leak from roof, broken furniture, toilet not working, shower not effective, not drain tub) Bed bugs - we are covered in bites Changed room three times, compensated with fruit.
