Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort
Centara Tropicana Resort is one of the most popular resorts on the island. The 77 spacious bright bungalows, some featuring outdoor bathrooms, make a nice change from a run of the mill hotel room. In 2009, the resort added a huge new hotel wing at the rear of the resort which probably wasn’t the best idea in the world. as this just means that there are a couple of hundred more visitors vying for sun loungers on the small stretch of beachfront.
Only a handful or bungalows have sea views but unless you want to also overlook the busy pool area and restaurant you may as well go for a quieter garden room.
Note that the Superior rooms are all well back from the beach and have their own pool area. this pool is always quiet as the majority of guests head to the one by the beach, making it very crowded at times.
The beach directly outside the resort is pretty good. There are quite a few stones and some dead coral at low tide. And there’s a handful of beach restaurants just to the south, around 3 minutes walk away. If you want a quiet area to sunbathe or swim, a 10 minute walk north, past the Panviman Resort brings you to nicer stretch of beach which never gets busy.
Inland, Klong Prao village is only a few minutes walk away – small shops, cheap restaurants, bank, ATMs etc are all found by the roadside.
All in all though, it’s a good choice for families.

My husband and I travelled to Koh Chang in January 2015 and stayed at Centara for a week to celebrate are wedding anniversary. Our travel agent booked the Cabana Suite for us and since we trust his judgment, we agreed to it and we are glad we did.
The hotel was very clean and the huge green gardens gave it a topical feeling. The manager and staff gave us a very warm welcome on the day of our check in. They continued to help us with whatever we needed and guided us regarding the restaurants and other places across Koh Chang.
The Cabana, like the rest of the hotel has a beautiful design. The use of wood and bare concrete adds a stylish modern element to its design. All the furnishings of the cabana worked perfectly fine including the air conditioning and satellite TV. Even the free Wi-Fi was working well and did not cause any troubles during our stay. I would recommend that you get the Cabana Suite whenever you stay here as it has the best location in the hotel with the bar/dining area and beach very close to it unlike the other rooms which would require you to walk more.
The bed was not comfortable enough for me. It was very hard and even the pillows were not soft enough which made it very difficult for me to sleep at night. However, the sheets and towels were replaced regularly and the staff was very good with regards to cleaning the room. The balcony had a great view and was fully furnished which made it easy to enjoy the view and relax in the tranquil environment.
The bathroom had a bathtub and a shower and we were provided with all the bathroom supplies including shampoos, soaps, conditioners and shower gels. However, the water pressure was disappointing and remained bad for most of our stay here. The water was either too hot or too cold which made it impossible to have a good shower. There is an outside shower as well that was a lot of fun to use. Although the water was cold, using it at night with the moon and the stars made it a different and interesting experience.
The breakfast had the standard dishes you would find anywhere you go. On the first day, my bacon was undercooked and I had to ask them to get it changed. Apart from that, there were a number of other things to choose from in the breakfast buffet and the selection remained the same every day. Apart from that, the food was a bit expensive for us so we usually had lunch and dinner at restaurants near the hotel which had reasonably priced menus.
There are a number of things you can do to pass the time when you stay at the hotel without having to leave the hotel. I would recommend that you use the spa services which include a number of signature spa treatments that will relax your body and mind. My husband and I particularly enjoyed the massages and the steam baths.
We also enjoyed the cooking classes with a Thai chef and snorkeling which was available on request.
The resort has a very peaceful environment and since it is set on a beach you can take part in a range of beach related activities and water sports such as volleyball. Since the beach to the north is almost deserted, there is a lot of space for the people staying at the hotel.
The sunset view is beautiful which you can enjoy on the deck chairs and I would also recommend that your try the beach bars outside the hotel if you are looking for nice and cheap food and drinks.
Centara Tropicana Resort is the perfect hotel for couples and family to stay in and relax. The hotel stands out for its quiet surroundings, family-oriented services and friendly staff.
