Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort is one of the most popular resorts on the island. (Centara is a large Thai hotel chain with resorts across the country and elsewhere in S.E. Asia) There are 77 spacious bright cabanas, some featuring outdoor bathrooms and at the rear of the resort are a couple of large blocks of hotel style rooms.

Only a handful or bungalows have sea views but unless you want to also overlook the busy pool area and restaurant you may as well go for a quieter garden bungalow. Note that the hotel style rooms ( both Superior & Deluxe) are all well back from the beach and have their own pool area. This pool is much larger than the beachfront pool and is usually quiet, as the majority of guests head to the beach.
The large number of rooms means the beach area can get crowded during high season. But the staff arrange a lot of activities for guests to keep them busy and away from lazing around doing nothing all day. There’s aerobics, beach football and volleyball, Muay Thai etc on offer daily. If you have young kids that need to be kept occupied, then Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort also has a kids club that gets good reviews from parents.
One cool initiative that I haven’t seen elsewhere is the ‘Green Day’. If you decide you can go a day without having your room cleaned and towels changed, then you get a 150 Baht food and beverage voucher – which is enough for a free beer in the beach restaurant.
The beach directly outside the resort is pretty good. There are quite a few stones and some dead coral at low tide. And there’s a handful of beach restaurants just to the south, around 3 minutes walk away. If you want a quiet area to sunbathe or swim, a 10 minute walk north, past the Santhiya Tree Resort brings you to nicer stretch of beach which never gets crowded.
Inland, Klong Prao village is only a few minutes walk away – small shops, cheap restaurants, bank, ATMs etc are all found by the roadside.
All in all though, it’s a good choice for families.
Nice hotel 😀 - The view and the tropical garden are very nice. The staff was very friendly. It's was the 2nd time I came here and not the last one 😊 your stafmember named nine was also very friendly and helpful. 😞 - Maybe they should renew the bathroom a little. But that's only a smal detail. It was fine for me

Charming Thai-Style Hotel with Great Location, But Needs Attention to Detail 😀 - Charming Thai-Style Hotel with Great Location, But Needs Attention to Detail I stayed at this hotel for 11 days and chose it mainly for its traditional Thai-style charm, convenient location, and lush garden surroundings. The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds, offering a relaxing atmosphere that fits well with the hotel's overall vibe. However, there were a few disappointing aspects. The cleaning service was below expectations—we didn’t receive any hand or face towels throughout our entire stay. The outdoor areas, particularly around the hotel grounds, also need more care and maintenance. The beach, while close by, isn’t the highlight. Sandbags disrupt the view, and the old, unattractive canopies give the area a rundown feel. The swimming pool water wasn't very clean either, with visible dirt and leaves collecting at the bottom—no sign of regular vacuum cleaning. On the bright side, the location is excellent—just steps away from the main street filled with shops, massage places, and food options. Despite the issues, I’d still rate this hotel as good overall and would consider returning if some improvements were made. 😞 - service and cleaning

😀 - The hotel is situated in a lovely garden along a long and wide beach, very clean and picturesque. The view is spectacular. The Premium Cabana was very spacious and comfortable for a family of 4. Waking up to such a wonderful view of a lush tropical garden was a great start of a day. The outside shower was as well a very nice experience. The cocktails and the drinks at the pool bar were delicious and high quality, not watered down, and the prices were more than reasonable. There were several activities for the kids near the pool and the lady in charge was very friendly and open and spoke English well, as opposed to the other staff. 😞 - At the beginning, the staff tried to downgrade the room to a simple cabana made up for '4' people. They didn't tell us, just sent us to this type of room, with a metal additional bed and one made out of a divan. The space was half of the one we paid for and a lot less comfortable and well maintained. As soon as we escalated the problem, they said that they thought that this will suffice and will be better for us since it's closer to the pool. After I complained that it's not acceptable, they took us to a type of cabana that we actually booked and was indeed far superior. This was a lousy approach and attempt to downgrade. The breakfast was plenty and somewhat varied but not excellent quality.

😀 - The pool/beach area was very relaxing, very big pool, spacious. Big rooms with nice outdoor area. The breakfast had lots of selection and was very nice. 😞 - The rooms were a bit dated and the bathrooms could definitely do with some refurbishment.

😀 - Location on the beach was perfect 😞 - Room was not fit for 3 people and the extra bed was sent to the room but extremely uncomfortable
