The Kitchen has been around for a few years now. It started life as a very small hole in the wall place 400 metres south but last year moved to new, much larger premises. I’d tried it in the past and hadn’t been overly impressed. But I kept hearing good things about it and so went back again. It’s one of a handful of places that sell good food in Lonely Beach, the lack of a local community meaning that , as in White Sand beach, every business is aimed solely at tourists and their tastes.
It’s a no frills type of place, open sided with wooden tables and plastic chairs. But has an inch thick photo menu with large photos of the dishes on offer – only two per A4 page. So deciding what you want is a matter of leafing through a couple of dozen pages and then back again once you’ve forgotten which page something was on. The usual common Thai dishes are all here plus a few Western items and various breakfast offerings. As you’ll see from the front of the menu the restaurant isn’t run by trained cooks, it’s a husband and wife who used to work in a resort and then decided to try running their own restaurant – based on their own love of cooking.
The upshot is good homecooked food and also better service than you might expect at a small roadside eatery. They must be doing something right as when a neighbouring restaurant opened up they used a similar name – don’t be confused ‘ The Kitchen’ is the place you want.
It’s in the main backpacker area of the island, but prices are average – not particularly cheap, you will find cheaper & equally good food elsewhere. They also have a fruit stall out front if you need a healthy dessert.

These restaurant reviews are just my thoughts on a place at the time I visited. I’ll mention if I know the owner well or get any freebies. But for the most of the time I am happy to play tourist and don’t mention this site at all. Obviously it isn’t possible to sample every dish on the menu and the type of food you have for lunch will differ to evening.
