Holiday Beach Resort on Koh Mak * Update *

Update February 2013:

Holiday Beach is still a very nice little place to stay.  Nothing much has changed, apart from the room rates – now the more spacious front row bungalows are 1,900 Baht/night for AC or 1,500 Baht/night for a Fan bungalow and the smaller second row bungalows go for 1,400 Baht with AC & 900 Baht/night for Fan during High Season.

The rooms have been spruced up a little with new beds and decor in the front row bungalows but everything else remains the same.  A very friendly, well run bungalow resort.  Not for people who want lots of luxury but in an ideal location and with huge garden area where you can sunbathe or join in with the evening frisbee session.  No TVs in the rooms, so peaceful at night.  But with good, fast, free wifi.

Usually when I visit Koh Mak I stay at Koh Mak Vista, Koh Mak Residence or Goodtime Resort – all owned by people I know well.   However, last trip I made was a last minute affair over Songkran ( Thai New Year ) and so had to find some place else that wasn’t already booked by Thai groups.

After checking around a bit I settled on Holiday Beach Resort, a small resort of a dozen bungalows on one of the nicest stretches of beach on the island.   It is run by Pom, a very affable Thai guy and his wife, Dara. Pom, a native of Chantaburi, first lived on Koh Mak 16 years ago, then returned again 5 years ago to take over Holiday Beach.   I hadn’t met him before during my trips to the island but knew of him through friends and also knew his best mate Gae well. Despite being 100% Thai run, they don’t accept Thai groups – or any large groups for that matter   – as they like the resort to be a quiet place. To this end TVs were taken out of the rooms ages ago and a entertainment for guests now comes via a very fast, microwave internet connection which allows you to check your emails in a beachfront hammock or in your room.

During the High Season, the five front row bungalows go for 1,000 Baht a night with Fan or 1,500 Baht if you want AC.   The smaller second row bungalows are 600 ( Fan) or 900 (AC) .   The bungalows are pretty basic but are clean, quiet and the location cant be beaten.   Add to this the friendliness & attitude of the owners, spacious garden area, good restaurant and you have a nice little beachfront resort for people like me ( and probably you too ).

If you are in Thailand give Pom a call on 086 751 7668 or see www.HolidayKohMak.com for online booking.

  • Garbage gets washed up from the sea when the winds are coming from the south, as they are now. This isn’t the resort’s fault. They will clean the beach every morning. But most resorts dont have the staff to continually clean the beach throughout the day.

  • Very good location. It is a pity that we found beach very dirty for 3 days. When I asked about this problem to the owner..he answered with ignorance and sarcasm. In his culture..there is not the knowledge that customers are always RIGHT. Then he spoken again after 10 minutes in Thai language with my woman friend and not in english with me which ask him the reason of dirty beach.

  • Truly amazing locations! Thailand is a #1 Holiday location! Thanks for sharing!
