Chai Chet Resort
Chai Chet Resort is located in a superb location on the headland overlooking Klong Prao beach. Whilst the resort doesn’t have any actual beachfront, it is only a 2 minute walk to the beach from the reception area.
This resort is very popular with Thai groups, so before you book check that you aren’t staying over a long weekend of Thai public holiday as the resort will be packed out and room rates higher. The resort doesn’t offer as many frills as other beach bungalow resorts right on the sand and the rooms obviously have never been touched by an interior designer, and are a bit dated but with AC bungalows for under 2,500 Baht/night in high season it’s a good combination of location, views and price.
In late 2009 new Sea View Villas with amazing views across the bay were added. These are very spacious and are better value than similar accommodation in many other resorts. rocky headland is a great place to watch the sunset and the resort also has it’s own jungle trekking trail that takes you along a path that runs by the some before cutting back over the headland to the resort. All the shops, restaurants you need are close by on the main road which is a couple of minutes walk away.

Although we have been visiting Koh Chang once or twice a year, for several years, this was our first time to stay at Koh Chang Chaichet Resort. There was a good last minute deal on Agoda and so my husband and I decided to give it a try. So, together with my husband and two kids, we flew from Dubai to Thailand for a five night stay at this resort.
As I mentioned earlier, it wouldn’t be our first time in the island but our first in this resort. When we arrived, it was raining hard which dampened our spirits. However, we soon perked up when we saw the room.
We stayed in a villa beach. My two kids would love to stay in a room that’s just a few minutes away from the beach so it would be easier for them to swim, anytime they want. Our villa had a great location. It was clean and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. The room was very spacious with comfortable bed. We didn’t need extra beds for our two kids because the king-size bed was already enough for the four of us. Since we traveled here during the fringe season, the resort wasn’t fully occupied.
It may not be a 5-star resort but it offers extraordinary beauty through its natural garden landscape. The surrounding is filled with century old trees and managed by the hospitality and friendliness of Thai & Cambodian staff.
In the room, the bed was very comfortable and big. It was comfortable enough that my two kids would simply love to lie down, watching TV while adults were unpacking their things.
The bathroom was also top-notch, although without a bath tub. But it had a fantastic shower that functioned well, unlike other hotels and resorts in the island. The room was well-designed and adequate for a minimalist like me. The room was spacious enough for a larger family. One of their welcome amenities was a tray of fresh fruits and water which was gratefully received by the kids.
The room rate includes free breakfast but the food was average, one of those mediocre buffets that are common in 3 star resorts.
But we also had the chance to eat from other restaurants, just a short distance from the resort. We did try an Italian restaurant at the far end of the nearby VJ Plaza, which served really good homemade pasta. Perfect.
I loved the views from the room and we got some excellent photos early morning and in the evening when the light was beautiful on the mountains and ocean.
We recommend it for a value-for-money resort on koh Chang.
