Kai Bae

Garden Resort, Kai Bae

Garden Resort,Kai Bae beach, Koh Chang

Garden Resort Kai Bae, as the name suggests, isn’t by the beach.   It is located on the inland side of the main road in the centre of Kai Bae village, a two minute walk to the beach.  A small, value for money resort with a good restaurant.

Pool at Garden Resort, Koh Chang

The area around the resort is pretty built up but noise doesn’t appear to be an issue for most guests.   However, it would be better to stay as far from the restaurant and entrance as possible as a bar with live music is directly opposite.

There’s also an elephant camp close by and you’ll often see their young elephants taking a morning walk down to the beach to swim.  A good variety of small shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance.

The comfortable, but not luxurious, well maintained bungalows are from around 2,500 Baht/night in High Season.   You could pay the same for a bungalow on the beach. But the western management at Garden Resort always gets very positive reviews and having someone knowledgeable on hand who speaks your language often makes your stay easier and hassle free.

Definitely recommended as a good, safe choice for first timers to the island. (And looks a lot better in real life than the photos on booking sites suggest.  They could do with updating.)

Blurry phoot of Garden Resort

Comfiest beds ever - amazing amazing hotel 😀 - The owner is extremely friendly / witty and great knowledge of the island. He even arranged a birthday cake for my father’s birthday we were celebrating there!! Pool is immaculately clean, bedrooms cleaned everyday and lovely hot water showers. Amazing tv and over 2000 movies and shows to watch! BEDS WERE THE MOST COMFORTABLE out of any hotel I have slept in (and I have slept in hundreds of hotels). Both myself and my parents said we were sleeping incredibly. Great quality breakfast in the mornings, cereal, Nutella, toast, omelettes etc. 5 minute walk to the beach, 1 minute walk to 7/11 and restaurants / bars. But the huts are tucked away making it very quiet and tranquil.

Great boutique hotel in heart of Kai Bae! 😀 - Can absolutely understand the high rating for this fabulous little boutique hotel right in Kai Bae. Could not fault anything about our stay. The owners and the resort team were friendly, welcoming and really made the whole experience enjoyable. Spotless (and spacious) room with a comfortable bed, fridge, TV, safe and outdoor area with seating. Well laid out bungalows in a beautiful tropical setting (mix of pool view / garden view), relaxing pool (with shallow and deep areas and a waterfall feature), and delicious cooked to order breakfast available (as well as fruit, toast, cereal, freshly ground bean coffee & juice). Location is fantastic. Close to everything you need restaurants, bars, 7-11, laundry, motorcycle/car rental, tour operators etc) and only a 5 minute walk to the beach to take in gorgeous sunsets. On Sundays in the high season, the owner also plays a few tunes at the bar and that was a really chill way to start a Sunday evening. Definitely recommended and very much looking forward to returning again!!

Affordable, centrally located oasis, with the owners personal touch, unlike most/all bigger hotels! 😀 - Quiet stand alone bungalow, so no noisy neighbours or roadside noise. 75” Tv for relaxing in the evening with many movies , cable tv etc (IN ENGLISH) But I also used my own Firestick. 😞 - Nothing really

Perfect stay 😀 - Mause is a great host and the rest of the staff were friendly always with a smile on their face. The resort itself is quiet, set back from the main road with beautiful gardens. The pool is small but incredibly clean and in a fantastic setting. The highlight of each day was the breakfast. Hot food cooked to order - my favourite the pad kaprow was fantastic. There was also a bean to cup coffee machine which I understand is quite rare at other breakfast buffets on the island. 😞 - Not a negative for me but the bungalows are basic but that suited my needs perfectly. The lock on my door needed replacing but this was done very quickly by one of the friendly staff.

Great! 😀 - Welcoming and professional staff but also very comfortable. Well thought out with everything you could need and liked the smaller touches like fridge remaining on when out of room and smart tv (both unusual at this price point in Thailand). 😞 - The resort (ie Kai Bae) is one of the more touristy on Ko Chang - but this is personal preference.
