Two private islands, one owned by a Pattaya based restaurant owner and property developer, the other by the family behind The Mall department store chain.
Koh Kham is being developed, under the watchful eye of one of Thailand’s top architects, into a high end resort comprising 23 super luxury pool villas that will blend into the hillside on the island and look out across the kilometre of sea to Koh Mak. Koh Kradat is home to a couple of dozen workers, a couple of thousand deer and a few kilometres of empty beach, a fading resort and a fading old photo of King Rama V visiting the island hangs proudly on the deck of one of the houses. However, this island, was identified as the location of the country’s first casino project by former PM and good mate of The Mall group, Thaksin Shinawatra, so change will come eventually.
