Klong Son

The Aiyapura Koh Chang

The Aiyapura Koh Chang

The Aiyapura Koh Chang was the first luxury resort to open on the island.   Despite what you may see mentioned on some booking sites, it isn’t on White Sand beach but is located in sleepy Klong Son, on the southern shore of a very scenic bay.

This isn’t a resort to stay at if you want shops and restaurants within walking distance, there isn’t anything.   And if you do make it to Klong Son village you will find that this is a local village with very little in the way of businesses or services aimed at tourists.   Although a small waterpark opened near the resort in early 2020.

However,Klong Son is good if  you like to see some ‘real life’, away from the more touristy areas of the island. It’s a great location to bicycle around.  You can head to the old fishing village and also inland to the elephant camp and waterfall along narrow roads with very little traffic.

But it also means that for a night out you need to go over the big hill to White Sand beach using the resort’s shuttle service.

The Aiyapura is also home to an indoor trampoline park, which is a great ways to spend an afternoon.  Adjacent is their own in-house bakery, Bread Oven, with a range of drinks and home made cakes and pastries. For Thai and international dishes, guests can head to the Rabiangtalay Restaurant by the beach.

The resort itself has very spacious grounds and is an ideal spot to get away from it all.   Reviewers love the service and  high standard of rooms.  But bear in mind that the resort only has an artificial beach and the bay isn’t ideal for swimming in.

This, plus the out of the way location, count against it being an ideal choice if you are planning a family holiday with kids in tow. However,  for a couple wanting to escape for a week and chill out it’s definitely recommended.

The Aiyapura Koh Chang villas

4 days exploring Ko Chang with 2 teenage girls! 😀 - Spacious grounds, natural and peaceful setting, good breakfast, spacious and very clean rooms. 😞 - Some aspects need renovation but this didn't spoil a thing!

Amazing staff, lovely surroundings and nice pool. 😀 - The staff were absolutely amazing, so friendly, helpful, attentive and showed excellent customer service. The location suited us well, nice and calm surrounding but easy access to white sand beach with the free shuttle. Beautiful view, nice room, good breakfast selection and big nice pool area. 😞 - The beach unfortunately wasn’t great for a swim but fun and generous with free SUP boards and kayaks that we used and easy to get to a lovely beach with the free shuttle.

The resort was perfect, without any major problems. 😀 - Staff were excellent, even the maintenance man was friendly when a light bulb went out in the room. Bathroom is huge, and I love the outdoor shower. Breakfast was good with fresh croissants and a great variety of dishes. 😞 - Only issue was that some surfaces had some grime on them, which the staff kindly explained that they were facing a water shortage after the dry season so they were unable to pressure wash the surfaces. Purely cosmetic, I regularly saw staff mop floors and wipe surfaces.

Very good 😀 - Very quiet place exactly how we like. Nice staff, good English, very helpful. We stayed in sea view villa. Very spacious, big bathroom, big TV and very private. Small beach at the villa and it was like private only for us. 😞 - Poor breakfast. Only eggs for those who doesn't eat Thai food for breakfast. Bed wasn't comfortable. All resort needs renovation. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago was really nice place. And redort could offer a free pickup service on the arrival

All round, everything was well kept. 😀 - Friendly staff… well-kept grounds and a recently renovated room (the staff member said our room was done up just a few weeks ago and they’ve done a good job) Also a great natural panoramic view. Beach is also calm and quiet. 😞 - Car parking was a bit of an issue but the manager explained that most of their guests (international) don’t come by car, however most Thais came by car during the long weekend. The swimming pool was crowded in the evening - most Thais don’t like the sun.
