Emerald Cove Resort, Klong Prao beach
Overall, The Emerald Cove Resort, is one of the best on the island. Other resorts may be on better beaches or may have more inspiring architecture, but if you want luxury, well trained staff, and a place where everything works as it should, then book it.
This stems from the fact the resort was part of the well known Amari chain until late 2014. It is currently run independently but looks set to be rebranded as a Marriott resort at some point in the future. (A couple of announced dates have come and gone, so no idea when that might happen.)
Think it as you would a ‘Starbucks’, it costs more than a regular hotel but you know what you are getting before you walk in the door. If you like your home comforts, appreciate good service and don’t want any shocks, surprises or screw ups, then it’s is for you.
The design of the hotel isn’t that inspiring. The rooms are located in three low rise hotel blocks built around a central pool area fronting onto a large garden and beach area. In fact, the resort looks far better at night when the walkways and ponds are illuminated, than it does in daylight.
The actual beach is very narrow outside the resort. Walk 10 minutes to the north for a far nicer stretch of sand and a handful of great beach restaurants which are ideal for evening meals or a quick snack and fruitshake during the day. There is a sandy area by the shore line which is filled with sunloungers for guests.
One of the keys to the hotel’s success is in its staff training, unlike many of the more expensive resorts on the island the staff here tend to know what they are doing and also do it efficiently.
There are several small places to eat and drink within 5 minutes walk of the hotel – the resort’s restaurants are pricey, as you’d expect in a 5 star. However, ‘Sassi’ the Italian restaurant is excellent. If you want more variety or a night out then it is easy to walk north along the beach to one of the restaurants take a pick up truck taxi into Kai Bae, 2 minutes drive to the south, or even walk there – 15 minutes, where you’ll find plenty of cheaper restaurants plus all manner of small shops and bars. Or Klong Prao village is also an easy 15 minute stroll, just cross the bridge near Centara Tropicana Resort and walk through Blue Lagoon bungalows

I was scheduled to visit the Emerald Cove for a wedding. I have never been to Koh Chang before, so I was not sure what to expect and what not to. But, to my utter astonishment, the island was a pure beauty. Koh Chang is called the wild beauty with a peaceful setting. Emerald cove is one of the well-kept resorts on the Koh Chang, with a five star touch.
It has 165 rooms and suites, all of them have either a serene or a breathtaking view of the sea to the west or the jungle-covered hills to the east. It is a beautiful mixture of peaceful rooms and suites that can keep anyone attached to the resort!
I stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights, and during that period, I used to start my day with a refreshing swim in the 50-meter beachfront pool, just before my mouth-watering breakfast. I was given a deluxe accommodation. It had a nice queen sized bed with beautiful and clean bed sheets. I suffer from back pain, but the mattress just surprised me, so comfortable. It was not too soft neither too hard. It was just the right thing for me.
I had access to free Wi-Fi with great speed. I used to download movies for night, and I used to watch them after I returned from all the fun at around 11 pm. The room was air conditioned, and I had access to my own tea and coffee making facilities. The washroom was spacious, neat, and tidy with good fragrance. The soaps, shampoos, conditioner, and washed towels, all were neatly placed in the washroom cabinet.
There were a lot of outdoor activities for me to stay occupied. I used to spend my day playing table tennis and having spa treatment. The Thai massage is performed in open-air at the Emerald Spa. I am an avid reader, and when I was not working I used to read at their local library.
I must tell you that I am a foodie and good food makes my day. There were numerous different bars, cafes and restaurants at the emerald cove. The breakfast was really good and up to the standard, but at times it used to be a little too crowed. However, I was impressed when the personnel cleaned the table immediately. I used to have my lunch at The Cove Terrace. It was so beautifully decorated. The menu was great with a stunning pool view. They offer one of the finest seafood with a combination of Thai and European cuisine.
Other great restaurants include: Just Thai and Sassi Italian. Then there is pools bar and breezes bar. I remember the client I was working for had a pool party and we all were invited to the Pools Bar. The beverages there were so good and we relaxed under the sunshine and have so much of fun.
The spa center was so good there. It was an honor to indulge in the Emerald Spa. I used to feel strong, emotionally, physically and spiritually. They provide one of the best quality services, this is the reason I feel why they are always jam packed with people. All the therapists are completely trained to ensure that the treatments they provide are the best for us.
The staff was so good and cooperative there. I was escorted all the way to my deluxe with the porter carrying my luggage. They all had such a welcoming smile, that the tiredness from the trip vanished immediately.
Let me point out some of the positives of the resort:
o The property is quite attractive with scenic gardens
o One of the most attractive place in the resort is the swimming pool, well-maintained and very inviting
o The staff was generous, well-mannered and eager to please
o Wi-Fi is of a good speed, and is available almost everywhere on the property
o The breakfast buffet was yummy, with can cater to various different spectrum of tastes.
o The rooms were spacious, clean and well decorated
o The washrooms were well cleaned and the towels were replaced every now and then.
o The room service was good and quick
The time of the year when I visited Koh Chang was quiet and peaceful. I could easily hear the wind gushing past my ear whenever I used to stand outside the resort. The selection of bars and restaurants was so good so huge that I never had to leave the hotel for food.
