For 2010

June 23

Wish you were here? It maybe the start of the rainy season but the weather is still great, the views stunning, the beaches deserted and the luxury hotel rooms heavily discounted.   It would have been even better if this was Koh Chang, but it wasn’t.     Not a clue about what’s happening on Koh Chang, but apparently it’s been a bit damp in the past few days.   Hopefully some relatively good weather will return soon as July looks like being far busier than June on Koh Chang.   These photos are from Samui last week.

And if you’re in Bangkok and in need of something air-conditoned that isn’t a shopping mall, the art gallery close to MBK and National Stadium skytrain is interesting enough for   30 minutes.   Plus it’s free and there’s usually a couple of open wi-fi networks if you need them.

Wimbledon has started so it only seems fair to give   a mention to Koh Chang’s newest sporting facility, Koh Chang Tennis Club, a mention.   Occupying a prime location in the heart of Klong Prao’s commercial district, opposite the builder’s merchant and behind the ‘Noodle Duck’ eaterie, this single court tennis club is open from 6am until 10pm daily. (Except for 6-7pm when local ladies don their spandex for an hour of slow motion aerobics) Use of the court costs 200 baht/hour, or 250 baht if you want to play under the floodlights and includes racket and balls.   If you are eagle eyed, or have ever played tennis, you might notice the curious positioning of the reception / rest area – only a few metres behind the baseline at one end of the court, not the safest place to sit when someone is serving from the opposite end.

One of the oldest ‘hotel booking scam’ emails is doing the rounds again.   If you get an email asking for the price of several rooms for a week or two stay from someone who wants to transfer money to pay for them odds are it’s a scam. You are led to believe you have a booking and the guests have   transferred money.   Then they notify you that unfortunately they made a mistake and sent too much.   So you will be asked to help them and send a refund asap before their boss finds out.

Dr Love is in the house.   Sometimes ‘Somchai’s Chemist Shop’ just doesn’t get your business the brand recognition and name retention that it deserves.   The solution, call in whoever does the PR for this place on White Sand Beach.
