Taste of India, White Sand beach

Authentic Indian food at Taste of India restaurant, Koh Chang

Once in a while when you’re on holiday it’s nice to take a break from eating spicy food that you don’t recognise.  And eat some spicy food that you know and love . . . Indian food.

White Sand beach is home to ‘Taste of India’ an excellent Indian restaurant that will satisfy your cravings whilst on Koh Chang.  The restaurant moved location in 2018, from a small homely place near the north end of the beach to a more central location 200 metres to the south.  This is a larger, fully air conditioned unit that was previously home to a failed fast food franchise.

The photo menu contains all the common Indian dishes and appetizers.  These are all home-made.  Nothing is brought in pre-made or frozen. A fact that the owner, Shane, is very proud of.  He’s happy to guide diners through the menu and recommend dishes depending on their requirements.  Inquisitive diners can also get  a peek behind the scenes in the kitchen  if they want to see how a certain dish is made.

The most popular dishes include the Butter Chicken, Paneer Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken and Lamb Vindaloo.  As you’d expect you can choose form any combination of curry and meat and the levels of heat can be cranked up tio extreme if you’re missing super spicy, Vindaloo .  And as a side dish, fresh naan bread and creamy Dal Makhani  – made from black lentils, kidney beans, butter and cream is a great accompaniment.

There are also plenty of vegetarian options eg Aloo Tikki, Aloo Gobi, Chili Paneer, Choley, Mixed vegetable Sabji etc

Portions are large and prices reasonable.  Soft drinks, including fresh fruit lassis are available. As is a selection of local beers.  No cocktails.

Price: $$ – $$$

Location:  Located on the inland side of the main road on White Sand beach, opposite Mac Resort.

These restaurant reviews are just my thoughts on a place at the time I visited.  I’ll mention if I know the owner well or get any freebies.  But for the most of the time I am happy to play tourist and don’t mention this site at all. Obviously it isn’t possible to sample every dish on the menu and the type of food you have for lunch will differ to evening.  In addition, owners and more importantly chefs, can change and your experience may differ from mine.  If it does, post a comment below.
