The annual Koh Chang Bikini run took place on 16 December along the north end of Klong Prao beach. This is an annual, free event which heralds the start of high season. The traditional Thai activity has been held every year since 2022. The aim is to create a buzz and get some news coverage for the island. This year around 250 people participated which is pretty good for a small fun run.
The event consisted of 4.5km run along the northern half of Klong Prao beach and back. The start / finish point is Chai Chet Resort. It should be noted that anyone going hoping to get an eyeful of hoards of Thai chicks in bikinis is likely to be disappointed. A few of Trat’s finest ‘beauty queens’ are brought along to pose with elderly local government officials, but that’s about it.
There was also free food and souvenir t-shirt for participants after the event. This goes some way to compensating people for having to sit through an hour of self congratulatory speeches by officials prior to the actual start time. Cash prizes were also on offer for the few people who wanted to take the event seriously and run fast. Or had the best fancy dress costume or swimsuit etc.
Anyway, if you’re planning on being on the island in the middle of December in future years and want a fun way to spend an afternoon – including a t-shirt and free meal. Then check for updates about the event on social media nearer the time.
