First Video of Koh Mak’s Underwater Elephants

In early October 2012, nine elephant statues of varying sizes were placed on the sea bed off Koh Mak in order to provide divers with a unique experience.  The project is entitled ‘Art for Ocean’ and the elephants, the largest of which is 2.5 metres tall, lie in 7 metres of water near the small island of Koh Rayang Nai a few hundred metres from the southwestern shore of Koh Mak.

The visibility in the video isn’t great but during High Season these statues will be able to be seen from the surface either by kayak or by glass bottomed boat. It is hoped that over time these underwater elephants will attract scuba divers from across the world to the island.
