Swedish Man Found Drowned In Thailand

A man from Stockholm, 42, was found drowned in the waters of the popular tourist resort Koh Chang south east of Bangkok. It happened Wednesday November 19, 2008. Until now, six tourists have drowned in the area this year alone.

The man was found lifeless by the staff from the hotel where he had been staying since late October. “It seems like he went for a swim alone, despite very heavy waves, a local police officer, Surawat Bootsamien, told several Thai newspapers.

A spokesman from The Swedish ministry of foreign affairs confirm to the Swedish newspaper Expressen that a Swedish man, age 42, has died in Thailand. The cause of his dead is not clear at the moment. But the Thai police do not suspect any crime involved in the death. The mans family in Stockholm is informed about the tragic loss.

This is one of the rare drowning stories to make it into the newspapers.   Every year around 12-15 people, inclusing several foreign tourists drown off koh Chang.   Usually in the rainy season.
