Salakkok Villagers Commemorate King Rama V’s Visits to Koh Chang

On December 11-13 villagers in Salakkok held events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of King Rama V. The King made many visits to this part of Thailand and to the Salakkok and Salakphet area. The events were designed to attract tourists but unfortunately weren’t well promoted either to Thai or foreign visitors.

I just found this video on a Thai travel site. It isn’t often you see a procession of old wooden gondolas with the occupants dressed in period costume followed by a parade through the village to the temple. So it’s worth watching.

You can take trips in this style of boat in Salakkok, at Salakkok Seafood Restaurant or, if you are on the west of the island, Iyara and Pu Talay restaurants both use this type of boats to take guests to see fireflies in the Klong Plu river.
