Blue Haven Bay (Siam Royal View) – The Largest Beachfront Development

Beachfront at Siam Royal View, Koh Chang

Siam Royal View is also known as Blue Haven Bay and is located in a large bay in the northwest corner of Koh Chang. It is the largest beach resort in Southeast Asia in terms of beachfront and water frontage. There’s over 2Km of sandy beach and a total of 4km of frontage onto the sea.

In total Blue Haven Bay / Siam Royal View covers over 465,000 Sqm. It’s in a very scenic spot, a private bay set against a backdrop of jungle clad hillsides. And being in a bay with limited access ensures guests enjoy a level of privacy that is hard to find in most luxury resorts.

Blue Haven Bay was originally conceived as a large, private housing development comprising villas and condominiums.  There are still housing plots for sale and the Sales Office, located at the entrance to the development also has details of re-sale villas that are available.

However, over the years, it has morphed into a more expansive project that also offers accommodation and facilities for tourists. Many of the villa owners now rent their properties through Agoda, Booking.com and Airbnb when they aren’t using them.  Added to this there are also three resorts located in the development.  One privately owned and two run by the developers.

Facilities for guests include a marine with wet and dry berths; two large beachfront swimming pools, a combined golf / disc golf course plus watersports such as stand up paddle boarding and kayaking.

Getting around the resort can be done on foot, or more conveniently, by taking one of the regular shuttle buses that run to a timetable from early morning to late night.  These run through the development and up to Klong Son village, dropping off and picking up at the 7-eleven

Where to stay at Siam Royal View / Blue Haven Bay?

If you have a large family or are travelling in a group of friends then renting a villa is the obvious choice.  A quick search on Airbnb will show a multitude of rental properties on the beach or just steps away.  All are stylish and modern and most have private pools.  If you’re on a budget look at the second row villas, just off the beach.  You might not have a perfect sea view from your living room, but you will save 30 – 40% of beach front rates.

But if you need something smaller, there are three resorts within the development.  The first to open was Little Sunshine Resort, owned by an expat who bought prime beachfront plots, built a couple of lovely homes and then turned it into one of Koh Chang’s best boutique resorts. The other two resorts are owned by the developers.  These are Marina Sands Resort and Peninsula Resort.

Peninsula Beach Resort

The Peninsula Beach Resort is a 4-star boutique hotel, which enjoys the a prime beachfront location at the north end of the bay.  The nine spacious rooms have direct access to the beach, and are a stone’s throw from the pool and Beach Club restaurant.  It’s also possible to book the rooms with an ‘All Inclusive’ option, which is rare for Thailand.

High Season rates from around 5,000 Baht / night. Check prices and availability on Booking.com

Little Sunshine Resort

This cosy boutique resort has been welcoming guests for a decade.  It’s located right in the centre of the beach and has additional guest rooms facing the disc golf course.  It’s a family run business and ideal for anyone looking for  value for money accommodation with a personal touch. There is also a well stocked shop with bakery items, gelato and snacks.

High Season rates from around 4,000 Baht / night. Check prices and availability on Booking.com

Marina Sands Resort

The Marina Sands Resort opened in late 2018 and is located adjacent to the yacht marina.  These spacious apartment style rooms cater to families families, groups and boating enthusiasts.  The value for money rooms have spectacular views of the river, the mangrove forests and the lush green hills.  The beach is user 5 minutes walk away.  A rooftop swimming pool where you can sunbathe and relax in peace and quiet, Thai massage and a Kids’ Club are also on site.

High Season rates from around 2,000 Baht / night. Check prices and availability on Booking.com

On-site Bars and Restaurants

If you’re in need of a sunset cocktail then either the pool bar at the north end of the beach or larger Shambhala beach bar at the south end are ideal spots to enjoy a cocktail as the sun goes down.  Shambhala, in particular, is a great place to hang out during the day.  There are comfy loungers by the pool or under the shade of palm trees, a quiet beach, huge garden area where kids can play and wide range of drinks plus a simple menu of western & Thai dishes. Inside the development the three resorts mentioned above have restaurants.

Peninsula Beach Resort’s ‘Beach Club’ restaurant offers all day dining by the beach. Food is a mix of Thai favourites plus international cuisine that appeals to all tastes and is complemented by an extensive drinks menu.

Little Sunshine Resort is home to the Café du Soleil Restaurant, serving hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring an inventive menu of both authentic Thai and European dishes.

And if seafood is your thing, you’ll find it at Marina Sands Resort ‘The Harbour’ restaurant is built on a large, covered terrace right on the river.  And, on a rooftop deck nearby, ‘The Flybridge’ bar serves up comfort food and ice cold drinks.

Also in the vicinity the riverfront ‘Fisherman’s Cottage’ coffee shop is a nice spot to relax by the water and enjoy a coffee or smoothie in a renovated fisherman’s house.

But if you require something simpler (although without the same views or price tag) directly opposite the main entrance to Siam Royal View you’ll find inexpensive Thai food plus a good Italian restaurant.

  • The difference between high and low tide varies through the year. But it is the same on all beaches. Lonely beach has the steepest drop off from the beach to the sea. But there aren’t any good bungalows right on the beach at Lonely beach. You will find bungalow resorts by the beach on Klong Prao, White Sand and Kai Bae beaches.

There isn’t any good snorkelling off the beaches on Koh Chang. As you need coral reefs in order to see a lot of fish.

  • Hello, we are looking for comfortable and modern beach bungalov away from the center, next to the white sandy beach, which is suitable for swimming and snorkeling and does not have too much difference in sea level between low and high tide. Can you help me please
