Klong Prao

The Dewa Koh Chang Resort

The Dewa Koh Chang, Klong Prao beach

The Dewa is definitely one of the most interestingly designed of Koh Chang’s luxury resorts.   It’s bare concrete and funky, sparkling tiling fall into the ‘love it or hate it category’.   Fortunately, most guests seem to love it.

This isn’t really a family resort.   It’s more suited to couples and the decor isn’t soft and fluffy.   The interiors of the room are bare concrete with Thai silk and natural wood finishes and decor.   Plus artwork that doesn’t fall into the usual ‘scenic sunset’ or ‘beach vista’ category.  It’s more abstract and eclectic.  You’ll love the bathrooms and sliding glass walls which allows you to climb into the bath from the bedroom, should you wish.

The resort is only 100 metres from the Emerald Cove and both receive similarly very positive reviews and ratings from guests.   Nothing much between them in terms of location or service.   But in terms of having personality The Dewa wins easily.  And if you want to splash out, the two floor beach villas are well worth it for a special occasion.

Possible downsides are that the rooms is that most don’t have a sea view, as the resort is on a relatively narrow strip if land.  So only guests staying in the super luxury beachfront villas get uninterrupted sea views.   Likewise the pool is hidden from the beach, so no views whilst you are lounging poolside – but the pool is 700sqm and so is rarely crowded.

The narrow beachfront area can become a penguin colony in High Season, as it also caters to guests staying at the resort’s sister hotel, Ramayana, which doesn’t have it’s own beach. Nearby there are some good beach restaurants and also a few other large resorts.  But if you want to find a quieter spot to swim, just walk north along the sand for 10 minutes.  Klong Prao village is under 10mins walk away, take a shortcut through the nearby Blue Lagoon bungalows, so finding inexpensive Thai food in local restaurants.

Want luxury & service? Want a resort with character? Bored of generic mock ‘Thai temple  style’ resorts and want something unique? Book The Dewa.

A relaxt stay at the most beautiful beach of koh Chang 😀 - Best stay on koh Chang when you like to relax and an authentic atmosphere at the most beautiful beach of Koh Chang. The rooms are very well contained and clean. Also the swimmingpool is clean and very nice. The staff is super friendly and helpfully, especially mister Noi! Also it is very family friendly. A place for us to come back.

Quiet, but overpriced, Staff were excellent. 😀 - loved the beach , swimming pool. peacefulness was a bonus. Khun Noy was very helpful and extremely polite. We had a problem with the hot water in the bathroom and he managed to sort it out for us. Parking was also not an issue. Breakfast was acceptable, the omelettes were really good and carefully made.If I wanted a away fro it all holiday again I would come back here as its right off the beaten track. 😞 - The roads leading to the hotel were ok until the last kilometre then it reverted to dirt road it was terrible. It's about the only bad thing about this out of the way hotel. It was really overpriced for what it was.

Nice resort for a relaxing stay 😀 - I you seek for a relaxing stay at the beach, this is the right choice; located at a nice beach at the southern coast of Ko Chang, there is hardly nothing disturbing close by; some other resorts and hotels at the beach offer possibilities to have lunch/dinner there or take a short walk or ride to Bang Bao, anything else is a “longer ride”, right place to enjoy calm und peace; we were off season so just a few other guest and reduced service in means of no massage treatments or restaurant/bar opening hours 😞 - Rocks in the water at the beach, need to be careful when going into the water; the stuff was friendly but a bit chaotic, when we arrived felt like they were surprised we came, although we had a booking; service was a bit low, not really proactive offering you new drinks/food

Pretty location, but quite remote. Poor management, not the typical friendly Thai attitude. Don't expect great servi 😀 - Well maintain garden/beach area. Close proximity to the beach. 😞 - Rooms are a little run down, noisey air con, bath plug would get stuck, doors wouldn't lock properly etc. However none of that really bothered us. It was the fact that when we arrived on we went to take a nap and noticed the sheets were damaged, most likely due to their age (normal wear and tear). We notified the staff 3 times, and finally during dinner on the first evening, they confirmed they would fix them the next day. However during dinner on the last evening, we were approached again regarding the sheet and they tried to charge us 750 baht (supposably half the value). Even though it was the same guy that told us it would be solved it was as though he deleted that conversation from his mind and continued to approach us about the issue all the way through our last dinner. Although we managed to conclude with them that we would not be paying for something that was not our fault it left a sour taste in our mouth. English skills are limited.
