Chok Dee Resort
Chok Dee Resort is one of the original, locally owned ‘Thai style’ resorts on Koh Chang. Established 20 or so years ago to cater for groups of Thai visitors and other tourists who just wanted a basic bungalow by the sea.
It’s in a great location. The newest rooms, in the two hotel blocks ( in the photo above) have great views. They look north along the length of Klong Prao beach. And from the resort it’s only 10 minutes walk to Kai Bae village. So going out for the night is easy. There are also small shops and restaurants on the roadside by the resort.
But the resort is let down by the older air-con bungalows which are a bit tatty. The fan huts have a pretty good location too – perched on the hillside above the other bungalows. But, again they’re definitely no frills affairs. You stay there based on price. There isn’t much beach directly outside the resort. It’s in a small bay, with a narrow strip of beach. But it’s easy enough to walk 5 minutes north, past the Emerald Cove and Dewa resorts and there there’s 1.5 Km on beach.
Overall, not a bad option if you can get one of the new hotel rooms for a good price.

I had spent almost 5-6 hours searching through the internet and found several deals that were under my budget. When searching, I came across Chokdee Resort on Klong Prao Beach .
The resort had family bungalows and looked like a good value choice. The reviews weren’t so great. But we didn’t need any luxury. Reaching the resort did not take long, about 30 minutes from the ferry pier. When we arrived, the help desk was very welcoming and quickly handed us the keys to our air-conditioned bungalow and wished us a pleasant stay.
After the long flight, we straightened our backs out with a Thai massage and I went to the help desk to inquire about activities. Next day we took a couple of kayaks out to the island close by which was hard work but very enjoyable. Breakfast wasn’t included but was available for a surcharge. We took this, a continental breakfast. But it didnt taste like the continental breakfast I’ve had on trips to Europe. On the other days we went out and ate at some small restaurants in the village nearby.
My wife and me strolled on the beach most days while the kids played in the sea or made sandcastles outside the Family restaurant on the beach, about 5 minutes walk from our bungalow. day, had a nice lunch that we had picked off at the Lotus Express on our way to the beach.
We spent the last few days out and about, discovering seafood restaurants and beaches nearby including the Friend Seafood and Mam Seafood. My wife and I also enjoyed a few drinks and the small bars in the nearby Walking street area.
Overall, Chokdee Resort was everything I had hoped and was very affordable as well. You would not feel like that you are spending a fortune and will still be able to get the value for money. I wished I had more time to spend but duty calls and we had to return home to China.
