Garden Resort Kai Bae

Garden Resort, Kai Bae beach

Garden Resort Kai Bae, as the name suggests, isn’t by the beach.   It is located on the inland side of the main road in the centre of Kai Bae village, a two minute walk to the beach.

The area around the resort is pretty built up but noise doesn’t appear to be an issue for most guests.   However, it would be better to stay as far from the restaurant and entrance as possible as a bar with live music is directly opposite.

There’s also an elephant camp close by and you’ll often see their young elephants taking a morning walk down to the beach to swim.  A good variety of small shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance.

The comfortable, but not luxurious, well maintained bungalows are from around 2,500 Baht/night in High Season.   You could pay the same for a bungalow on the beach. But the western management at Garden Resort always gets very positive reviews and having someone knowledgeable on hand who speaks your language often makes your stay easier and hassle free.

Definitely recommended as a good, safe choice for first timers to the island.

My wife, two children and I make a yearly trip to spend our holidays in different countries around the world, this year we went to Thailand.

We travelled to various places in this beautiful country and one of these was the island, Koh Chang. We stayed in the Garden Resort as this was recommended by one of my friends who had recently been there. We decided to go with this hotel as it was highly reviewed on all the tourism websites online and my family and I are glad to have made this decision.

We stayed in the Family Bungalow and when we checked in we were greeted by the Dutch owner and his assistant which was very nice. They showed us the resort, which has been beautifully constructed with tropical gardens, thatched roof accommodations and a perfect combination of nature and luxury. We were taken to our family bungalow so that we could settle in, and the manager assured us to feel free to contact the staff if we have any queries.

I noticed how the whole resort was very clean, well maintained and decorated which is very important to my family. So we finally unpacked and once we were done we decided to explore the place. The bungalow was spacious and had a door between the rooms which was convenient. The only thing missing was that there were not any mirrors in the rooms and there was not enough cupboard space for four people, however this was not a big issue for us but this is something I wish I had known before coming here.

The breakfast was brilliant. There were a number of things we could choose from and this is always a good thing. With a variety of fresh fruits, bread, tasty eggs, bacon, cheese, Nutella, Thai dishes and Peanut butter and a number of other options, there was something for everyone to enjoy. They also had a coffee machine which is something I appreciated since I need my coffee in the morning to function!

As we were staying there for five days we decided to plan exactly how we are going to spend this time and the staff and manager at the resort helped us immensely in this regard. The staff was very friendly and efficient while dealing with our requests. They went out of their way to give us advice about the best places in the area that we should visit and this helped us in making our trip a memorable one.

We spent most of our first day near the pool which was very relaxing. The pool had clean salt water and was exactly how it is shown in the pictures that is around 3 meters deep. The artificial waterfall with the pool was also a very beautiful and relaxing sight. My family had a wonderful time in this pool and it was refreshing. The sun chairs near the pool were also very comfortable. Since there are not any children’s pools I recommend bringing flotation equipment for your kids.

Apart from that, the bed was very comfortable and while I have trouble sleeping in most hotels I did not face any such problems here. They even replaced the pillows when I requested softer ones which was another good thing about this place. There was free Wi-Fi and the connection was very good throughout our stay. There was a satellite TV in the room and so there was a range of channels to choose from and the rooms also had a DVD player and a range of free DVDs to choose from in case you feel like spending the day inside your room.

The sheets were replaced regularly and the fridges were restocked with water too apart from that clean towels wrapped in animals shapes were kept on the bed every day which was amusing. The water pressure was perfect and hot water was available throughout the trip except for one day but the manager apologized for that time and again.

I would recommend that you get a pool side room since it is far from the busy street so you can avoid the night time noise and its right next to the pool with its waterfall which makes for a good view. Another thing that you must keep in mind is that there are mosquitoes near the garden area so you should take the necessary precautions to avoid getting bitten by them.

Another good thing about the resort is its location. There are a number of bars, restaurants, shops and elephant rides near it and the beach is around 5 minutes away so there is never a dull moment and you can explore the whole of Koh Chang easily by staying here. Additionally you can ask the staff to get you discounted rates on tours, trekking, waterfall, shooting, fishing and recommendations on the best places to go to on the island.

Garden Resort is a resort which offers value for money. It is the perfect place for a family holiday. Its location, quality service, fantastic breakfast and relaxed atmosphere will make your trip memorable.
