Mrs Local Cooks Pad Thai

cooking pad thai on koh changI clicked on this video and immediately recognised the apron being worn by the cook, who’s face isn’t shown during this 5 minute ‘How to make Pad Thai’ instructional video.  The video was filmed at Chumnan Restaurant in Klong Prao, just south of the temple and opposite the turning for Klong Prao Health Centre.  The woman doing the cooking is Pa Tid (Aunt Tid) who runs the place with her family.

Chumnan is a no frills type of place where you are guaranteed good food for a good price.  Most dishes are 30-40 Baht, a big beer is 50 Baht and there’s even a menu in English.   Diners are a mix of locals, expats and tourists – so it’s also good for a bit of people watching.  Go there if you are staying in the area, it’s open from mid morning until late night and I eat lunch there around 3 times a week.

Actaully in the ” real ” Pad Thai recipe, we never ever use the hot chili sauce but instead we combine the fish sauce, coconut sugar and tamarine sauce mixed together
That taste much better for me :)
