13 March – Another Dead Tourist

The body of a white male was fished out of the sea off Lonely beach this afternoon. The deceased was dressed in a white t-shirt & green shorts and the body was bloated indicating it had probably been in the water for a few days. If you're missing a friend or relative get in touch. It's pretty rare that you find anything relating to the history of Koh Chang online. Finding old reports from western visitors who were here prior to the advent of tourism is nigh on impossible. The odd survey report from Dutch botanists or Portuguese entomologists exists, but nothing really of interest to your or I.

Therefore, imagine my surprise, when I unearthed what may well be the oldest map of Koh Chang in existence, painstakingly Photoshopped hand drawn and complete with the amateur cartographer's musings on, what was then known as 'Elephantine Isle'
