Sites with
something to say about Koh Chang
If you have a site
related to Koh Chang please email me
the URL & brief description and I'll add a link here.
General Info
www.kohchang.com - Don't bother clicking, nothing
at all to read.
www.koh-chang.com - Run by a Bangkok based
company, who also have a glossy free printed guide. Tourist info designed
solely to
get you to book your hotel room using their online service.
www.koh-chang.info - A lot of photos here and
very good source of practical info about the island, getting here, hotel booking, beaches etc. Not may smiles
to be had, as you'd expect from a site in German & English.
www.koh-chang.ch - Info site created
by the owner of a Klong Prao internet cafe. Lot of straightforward info and
some paid ads from small bars & restaurants on
the island, from a guy who's been here a while.
www.kohchangbookingandinformation.com - Winner of the longest URL award
is this new, (late 2007) site with hotel, trip & tour bookings.
www.kohchangisland.com - Was a
nice looking site but with limited info on everything except booking hotels.
Now pretty lifeless as of March 2006 and offline as of May 06.
www.kohchanginfo.com - Another
site that was online but disappeared into the internet ether by May 06.
www.kohchangthailand.com -
Online booking site - has some budget accommodation listed . . . but you'll
pay 30-40% over the odds if choose convenience over a room search when you
arrive.
www.kohchang-thailand.info -
Another ultimate guide to Koh Chang, as of Jan 07 not fully complete, but a handy
resource with more info and fewer ads than most sites of this type.
www.whitesandsthailand.com
-
The best of the online
touristy webguides, advertise with them and you get a mention online as well
as in the guide, don't advertise and you don't exist - that's the message. If
my site has too many of my own opinions for your
taste, try theirs for a more sensible, run of the mill, corporate approach.
www.thisiskohchang.com - Koh Chang Events and happenings. There's
more happening here than just the annual temple fair, or maybe not. Don't
worry, Koh Chang isn't really as dull as the discussion board. ;-)
Accommodation
Koh Chang
www.3seasonsbungalow.com - 3 Seasons Bungalows, Klong Prao. Half a
dozen very nice bungalows, (they got their bamboo furniture from the same
place we got ours) but by the road rather than the beach. The owner
has seen sense and is now renting the bungalows out on a monthly basis.
www.aanaresort.com - Aana Resort and Spa, Klong Prao. Not on the
beach but near enough - your private boatman will ferry you along the
estuary to the beach. A very nicely designed 4 star which is well
worth considering if you aren't on a budget.
www.alinaresort.com - Alina Resort, White Sand
Beach.
Average 30+ room resort on the beach. New extension opened in April 06.
www.aiyapura.com - Aiyapura Resort,
Klong Son. The first luxury resort on the island, owned by mates of a
former Thai Prime Minister, nice place, nice views, but an out of the way location.
www.ashi-agency.com/thai/english.html - Baan Bo, Kai Bae. Japanese
run guesthouse & restaurant smack in the centre of Kai Bae. Good
choice if you want comfortable room but not at beachfront prices.
www.thailand-bungalow.com
- Ban Nuna,White Sand Beach. Long established, German owned
restaurant and bungalows. Good pizza.
www.bailanfamilybungalow.com
- Small, newly built (late 2005) hut resort by the roadside in Bailan with more home
comforts than usual - hot water and satellite TV for starters.
www.bailanhut.com - Collection of
aging backpacker huts in a very peaceful shorefront location. More a place
to get away from it all on a budget than party central.
www.bangbaoseahuts.com
- Bungalows built into the sea at the end of Bangbao
village. Great views, very quiet and quite pricey at around 1500 -2000
baht/night. (Haggle you will get good deals as they're rarely busy.)
www.banpuresort.com - Banpu Resort.
Thai package tour Hotel smack in the centre of White Sand beach. OK if
you must stay on White Sand Beach.
www.bhumiyamabeachresort.com
- Bhumiyama Resort. The only resort on Lonely Beach
catering to those with credit cards, a love of clean bathrooms and an
aversion to chipboard. Pretty nice place.
www.boutiqueresortandhealthspa.com - Boutique resort & Spa.
Bungalows and small spa by the roadside at northern end of Klong Prao beach.
Sea is 2 minutes walk away, a supermarket & bank are just over the road.
Pretty good bungalows for just under 2,000 baht/night, a bit dark inside
though, but well appointed.
www.cliff-cottage.com - Cliff Cottages,
Bangbao. Cheap hillside bungalows with great views of Bangbao
bay from the rooms and of the sunset from the restaurant.
www.changparkresort.com
- Chang Park Resort. Large, well established resort in
Kai Bae, owned by the Centrepoint ferry company. The 8,000 baht/night teak wood Thai
villas look the business, the older bungalows are showing their age.
www.webseiten.thai.li/Coconut
- Coconut Beach Resort. Older bungalows by the sea plus a hideous modern hotel
building which combines every style of architecture known to man, in a garden setting at the northern end of Klong Prao beach.
www.kohchangcoralresort.com - Coral Resort. Large, but uninspiring bungalows on a quiet
stretch of Kai Bae beach. Pretty good value though.
www.funkyhut-thailand.com - Funky Hut, Dan Kao. A handful of recently built concrete bungalows around a small
swimming pool in
a quiet location. But you'll need a motorbike and a love of riding up
hairpin bends to reach the nearest
worthwhile beach as no public transport passes the resort. Very good
bar next door though, called The Souk.
http://www.adventure-holiday-thailand.com/ - Island View resort,
Salakphet. The place to go if you are a sailor or enjoy being out on
the water.
www.gardenresortkohchang.com
- Garden Resort, Kai Bae. Rather nice bungalows hidden away behind the
southernmost 7-eleven minimart in Kai Bae. 2 minutes walk to the beach
& handy for restaurants etc.
www.grandlagoona.com - Koh Chang
Grand Lagoona. Huge resort, stay in wooden boat chalets, regular rooms
or onboard a ship that's been hauled inland. Not a place for light
walleted visitors or those who care that the entire resort was (allegedly)
built illegally and at great expense to the environment.
www.i-nspiration.com -
Inspiration Villa, Koh Chang. Koh Chang's only private beachfront villa that is
available for holiday rentals. Quiet convenient location with large
gardens, private pool and 4 double bedrooms.
www.judokohchang.com - Judo
Resort. Overlooking Salakphet Bay, so you'll need your own wheels to get
here. Disappointingly no martial arts classes despite the name.
www.jungleway.com - Jungle Way is the only backpacker resort on the
island where you can really get away from it all. No bars,
restaurants, shops or neighbours, other than a few elephants and local
farmers, for a couple of kilometres. Good place to chill out.
www.kaibaebeach.com - Kai Bae Beach
Bungalows, Kai Bae. Nice place to stay, well worth considering with a
good restaurant. Photos, bad English and prices on the site.
www.kaibaegrandvill.com -
Kai Bae Beach Grand Vill (not 'Ville') Hotel. A new hotel at the
southern end of Kai Bae beach. Good views, quiet and accommodation in
bungalows or hotel rooms. The hotel rooms are OK and
have great views.
www.kckohchang.com - Koh Chang
Grande Resort. Everything from dirt cheap backpacker huts to large
villas, at the quiet, sandy end of White Sand beach. But as of late 2007 the
old huts are buried under what will be new hotel rooms.
www.klongpraoresort.com - Klong
Prao Resort. One of the first large resorts on the island. Mix
of new and aging, cheaper, bungalows and a mecca for weekending Thai families. If
spending your holiday doing everything in large groups is your scene, stay
here.
www.kohchangcasamarina.netfirms.com -
Casamarina Guesthouse, Kai Bae. Cheap roadside rooms, good for
longstayers, bar hoppers and anyone who can't bear to be more than 20 metres
from a 7-11 minimart.
www.kohchangcliffbeach.com -
Koh Chang Cliff Beach Resort. Luxury accommodation in need of a lick
of paint and refurbishment in a secluded area
of north Kai Bae beach. the clifftop pool is great though.
www.kohchanghillside.com
- Hillside Hotel. As the name suggests, it's on the hillside in White Sand
Beach.
New, clean, comfortable and all the amenities your Mum would want if she
came to Koh Chang.
www.kohchangresort.20m.com -
Aging resort on Klong Prao. OK if Paradise is full but that's about as
good a recommendation as it gets.
www.kohchanglagoon.com - Koh
Chang Lagoon Resort. Yet another mid-price White Sand Beach hotel, no idea
where the lagoon is though as the resort is on the beach.
www.kohchangmarina.com - Koh
Chang Marina & Resort. modern bungalows near the sea in Salakphet
Bay, no beach here
- it's more for nautical types than beach bunnies.
www.kohchangparadise.com - Koh
Chang Paradise. Large, new, and, despite being a pinkish colour, rather
nice bungalows at the northern end of Klong Prao beach. Worth checking
out.
www.kohchangprivilege.com -
Koh Chang Privilege Resort. Uncrowded aircon bungalows on Pearl Beach.
www.kohchangsalakphet.com - Salakphet Seafood &
Resort. Good food and decent rooms built over the water in the bay.
www.kohchangtropicana.com -
Tropicana Hotel. A very nicely Balinese designed upscale resort, I'd stay there if I
had 5,000 baht/night to splash on a room.
www.logansthailand.com - Logan's
Place. Swedish
run, upmarket guesthouse and farang food restaurant in the centre of
Whitesand. Nice place to sit and watch the main road.
www.lonelybeachcottage.com -
Paradise Cottages, Lonely Beach. Mid-size backpacker bungalow resort.
Cleaner and better maintained than most. On the stony section of
Lonely Beach, so it's a 10 minute walk to the sand.
www.lonelybeach.net/
- Lonely Beach Resort. Bungalows and internet cafe by the main road.
Cheap and within stumbling distance of bars, restaurants etc.
www.magicresort.info/home/eng/index.htm - Magic Resort, Klong Prao.
At the very south of the beach a few minutes walk from Kai Bae.
Traditionally one for Thai visitors but now has some new bungalows, brighter
and more 'Western' in design and colour scheme. Not bad, especially if
you have a large group you need to house for a reasonable price.
www.magicgardenthailand.com - Magic Garden, Lonely Beach.
Bungalows, bar, restaurant, free wi-fi and an emphasis on 'Chillaxing'
whatever that is. Good if you like to party but want a bit more
comfort than a basic 200 baht/night hut.
www.mamkaibae.com - Totally pointless
website for Mam Kai Bae Bungalows, Kai Bae. Flash intro and then three
pages of photos with no text, no email, no info of any kind.
www.moosplace.se - Thai/Swedish run
huts off the main road in Klong Prao. Not for beach lovers or
architecture buffs, but worth a
look if you want to get more for your money and aren't too fussy about
location.
www.nirvanakohchang.com -
Nirvana Resort, Bangbao. A bit remote but a good place to stay if you
want seclusion and some spectacular views over Bangbao Bay. Not one
for beach lovers though - more for people wanting to get away from it all in
comfort.
www.oasis-kohchang.com -
Oasis Bungalows, Lonely Beach. New bungalows, opened Nov 05, in a great location on hillside above Lonely Beach. The
tasteful, but basic, ensuite fan bungalows go for 300 baht/night. A good
deal for anyone wanting quiet place to hang out.
www.panviman.com - Panviman Hotel. Very posh, very
expensive and
on a very quiet stretch of Klong Prao
beach, about 2 mins walk from my house.
www.penny-thailand.com - Penny's
Bungalows. Aircon
bungalows by the sea on Pearl Beach, no sand nearby but they have a swimming
pool.
www.plaloma-cliff.thai.li
- Plaloma Cliff Resort. Large mid-price place at the southern end of
White Sand Beach which has been around in one form or another for 15 years or so.
Popular with Germans - so grab your sun lounger the moment you check in.
www.pornsbungalows-kohchang.com - Porns Bungalows, Kai Bae. Nicely
photographed website for a popular budget bungalow resort in Kai Bae. No
online booking though.
www.ramayana-kohchang.com
- Ramayana Resort. Looks the business, but it's roadside and the beach
is a fair trek, i.e. outside walking distance. A place to stay if you have your own wheels and aren't
into watching the sunset over the sea from your verandah.
www.kohchangsalakphet.com/resort_e.html - Salakphet Seafood,
Salakphet Bay. Great location for a restaurant. Very popular with Thai
tour groups and attracts a lot of Thai dignitaries and politicians - see
photos on the wall. Also has huge rooms built over the water.
Not good for a beach holiday but good if you want a break from the west
coast for a night or two.
www.seaviewkohchang.com
- Seaview Resort and Spa, Kai Bae. Secluded
resort, good place for folks who have come here to relax and not to mingle
too much. Rooms vary in price from 'Reasonable' to 'How Much ??!!'
www.siambeachresort.in.th -
Siam Beach Resort, Lonely Beach. Once backpacker hut resort but now
going upmarket. On a very nice, quiet stretch of beach, with good
value Deluxe hotel rooms and AC bungalows. Take a look.
www.siambayresort.in.th - Siam
Bay Resort, Kai Bae. The same owner as the resort above. Newer
beachfront bungalows, older hillside bungalows -some suitable for
families. Ok Beach, pool and 10 mins walk to the centre of Kai Bae.
www.siamhutkohchang.com -
Siam Hut, Lonely Beach. Same owners as above but this is the slummiest
place. 500 baht gets you a very old ensuite wooden hut on the beach.
www.thalebungalow.com - Thalé
Bungalows, Klong Prao, pronounced 'Talay' but the Thai owner studied in
France. A true backpacker place, over 15 years of no frills huts on a
quiet beach, but looks like closing down in mid-2008.
www.tree-house.org - New (Dec '06)
site for Treehouse backpackers huts on Lonely Beach & Long Beach Koh Chang.
Lots of day-glo Flash animation so not the sort of site to visit if you're
epileptic.
www.topresort-kohchang.com - Top
Resort. Top as in it's on the top of a cliff, not top as in the best
place to stay. Does the job if you want a sunset view on White Sand
Beach
and a solid AC room takes precedence over a sandy beach.
www.whitesandbeachresort.com - White Sand Beach
Resort, White Sand Beach. Very secluded, well-established resort with almost
100 bungalows. But a bit of a trek if you want to get to the nearest
7-11 and don't have transport.
www.vjkohchang.com -
V.J. Hotel & Health Spa. Recently opened (Nov. '05) hotel next door to the
Amari on Klong Prao beach. No frills but the 50 rooms have all you
need to be comfortable and are well under half the Amari price.

Diving and all manner of sea related activities in Salakphet. (They've
got a very nicely renovated fisherman's house.)

Picasso fan has been at the fish. Includes all the info you need about types
of course available etc. One of the few dive schools I
haven't heard a bad word about.
www.divekohchang.com
- All the info contained on individual dive school
sites plus cost comparisons & FAQs etc
www.dolphinkohchang.com
- Simple site with all the basics covered in the same
format as most other dive sites. Useful but not worth bookmarking for
posterity.
www.Eco-diver.com - Course info + uninspiring
photos all, for some unknown reason, in boxy framed pages. The English
version was last updated in Feb 05 and includes such gems as 'come on and
let yourself spoil in our paradise'.
www.ede.ch/seahorse/index.html - Knocked up
with less time, effort and thought than it takes to boil an egg.
www.koh-chang-divers.com -
Bangbao based dive school, who rather surprisingly, have put together the
most useful and informative of all Koh Chang's dive schools' websites.
www.changdiving.com - Scandinavian
dive school based at Klong Prao resort. They employ the craziest speedboat
driver I've seen, he nearly mowed me down when I was snorkelling near Koh
Rang in Feb '06. But they have a pretty site, which is light on any
useful
details.
www.ployscuba.com – Professionally done site. Can
tell it’s made in Thailand as it has a rather pointless but pretty opening splash page – no info but a
nice big fish. Other than that – info on dive sites on Koh Samet & Koh
Chang, the company, the courses etc etc
www.tecevolution.com - Based in
White Sand Beach & Kai Bae, dive operator that specialises in Tec diving
www.thedivekochang.com - The usual dive
photos and general blurb in several languages, pity there's no actual course
details or prices. So, if you actually want useful info you'll need to look
elsewhere.
www.waterworldkohchang.com - still under
construction - as it has been for well over a year. Only one page and someone has asked the web
designer to cram as much as possible onto it.
www.wingdivingkohchang.com -
The newest arrival on Koh Chang's scuba scene who's site is no longer online
as of May 06.
Other
www.baanzen.com - "Baan

traditional house, overlooking the lagoon. Joy is an experienced
sivanda yoga teacher. Also treat yourself to a range of well being
therapies such as reiki and bamboo massage.

Coconut Beach Resort, Chai Chet
Bungalows. Check your email on the beach and check out the
beach and weather on the island's only live webcam.
www.curlykez.com
- Aussie run art gallery in Bangbao that turn out some very nice postcards
of the island, site has zero info other than a few photos in the Gallery.
www.hqhostelxian.moonfruit.com HQ Hostel, Xian - Kiwi/Chinese
owned guesthouse in Xian, China. (Home of the terracotta army) Not the
coolest or hippest place to stay in the city but certainly one of the
friendliest and located in the old quarter of the city.

in Klong Prao KC.

it's the place to go if you like your doctor to have actually graduated in medicine
but you'll need a credit card handy.
www.kohchangislands.com - Small Real Estate office in VJ Plaza, Klong
Prao, but the website usually 'under construction'.
www.kohchangsailing.com - Worth looking at for anyone interested in
yacht charter or sailing in general in this part of the world. From
Sam, an American yachtie based at Island View Pier, Salakphet.
www.kohchangrealestate.com - Koh Chang's first property website. The
largest selection of Koh Chang land and houses for sale that you'll
find on the web. Made by the guy who does the mediocre IaMKohChang
site.
www.kohchangtv.com - Koh Chang's cable TV operator. All the Indian
& Philippine satellite channels you could wish for plus a few in English.
www.lonelybooksasia.com - Koh Chang's main second hand book store.

fakes' - some nice Roy Lichtenstein's for sale.
www.splat-fields.com - Late 2006 - small time paintball has arrived on Koh Chang,
but it's
something to do other than laze on the beach or ride an elephant. Early 2007
- and barely
a few months after arriving it closed and was up for sale. Koh Chang won't be the same
again.
Thailand Real Estate and Property Guide
- The name says it all, run by John in Pattaya, it's
the online version of the five year old 'Thailand Real
Estate Magazine' which I occasionally write for . . . which is why it's
listed here, plus it's a good read for anyone interested in property in
Thailand.
Rosegate Consulting, Pattaya
- Putting up your own house isn't something to be undertaken lightly in a

language. Richard, a Pattaya based expat,
provides construction management services to make life far less stressful
for buyers wanting a home in Thailand.
www.rayonginfo.com - Rayong tourist

- Orient Expat, info and discussion board for expatriates ( and those
planning the big move ) in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia
