Thai Cooking Class
This isn’t for everyone as even nowadays a lot of guys think learning to cook is either a bit beneath them, boring or simply for girls and gays. But even if you haver no interest in cooking at home, or that food preparation begins and ends at finding the Pizza Hut delivery number, think again. it can be fun.
No-one expects you to be a masterchef by the end of the day. And although you will be making Thai dishes by yourself, the instructor will be on hand to make sure you don’t embarass yourself too badly. If you think of the day as more of asocial occassion with a few laughs and plenty of food thrown in you’ll be on the right track. Prior to filling your face, you’ll learn all you need to know about ingredients that you probably can’t buy at home. Then make several well known Thai dishes.
These classes are a gentle introduction to Thai cuisine and the English speaking Thai teachers ensure that you’ll have an enjoyable time. if you don;t know your way around a Thai menu before you start, you will by the end.
Two very good places to learn are in Klong Prao, Blue Lagoon Cookery School at Blue Lagoon Bungalows and Ka-Ti Culinary, on the roadside about 400 metres away. You can’t go wrong with either of them, expect to pay about 1000 – 1200 baht/person including transfers from your hotel.
In the centre of Kai Bae, O2 Restaurant, roadside – opposite the northernmost 7-Eleven, has been running cooking classes for a few years too.
Many hotels will also have their own in- house cooking classes taught by the guys in their kitchen.
