Baan Koh Mak Resort is at the busier, western end of Ao Kao Beach, Koh Mak.  It’s a nice little flashpacker resort.  Originally with a dozen or so AC bungalows clustered around a small garden area and concrete ‘lagoon’ but last year they they also took over the neighbouring fan huts ‘ Koh Mak Cottage’ to provide additional accommodation.

The restaurant is in a  great spot and is a popular place for early evening people watching and volleyball on the beach.  Close by the resort has it’s own small beach bar too where you can rent windsurfers, kayaks etc.

I’ve eaten there a few times and the food is always good and reasonably priced.  But if you want more than the usual beach  restaurant fare the road at the rear of the resort is getting increasingly more small restaurants popping up.

Baan Koh Mak wont be winning any awards, but it’s a cosy place to stay. Probably more for younger couples who enjoy the beach life but don’t need too many home comforts, just  a clean AC room in a friendly resort.  The one downside is tat it isnt as well managed as it used to be as the original owners have now moved on.  So there are better, similarly priced options on the beach – eg Holiday Beach Resort which I now far prefer.
