Tropicana Resort
Room rates from 4,300 baht
Tropicana Resort is one of the most popular resorts on the island. The 77 spacious bright bungalows, some featuring outdoor bathrooms, make a nice change from a run of the mill hotel room. Only a handful or bungalows have sea views but unless you want to also overlook the busy pool area and restaurant you may as well go for a quieter garden room.
The resort is set to get much busier though as the large open area to the rear of the resort, which you see on the Google satellite view, is now the location of the Superior hotel rooms. This huge new addition has more than doubled the size of the resort. An additional pool has also been built here. However, the beach frontage remains the same and so the beachfront pool and beach area is sure to be very crowded during high season. My crystal ball predicts sun longer battles breaking out.
The beach directly outside the resort isn’t great, quite a few stones and dead coral at low tide, but a 5-10 minute walk north brings you to a much quieter, sandier area.
Inland, Klong Prao village is only a few minutes walk away – small shops, cheap restaurants, an ATM etc are all found by the roadside.
All in all though, it’s a good choice for families. But if you’re looking at Tropicana and also Paradise then go for Paradise as the beach is far better. Tropicana or The Dewa? – go for The Dewa, and you’ll guarantee not to have to put up with a Filippino two piece band playing show tunes during your evening meal, as you do at Tropicana.
