Tropicana Resort
Room rates from 4,000 baht
Tropicana Resort is one of the most popular resorts on the island. The 77 spacious bright bungalows, some featuring outdoor bathrooms, make a nice change from a run of the mill hotel room. In 2009, the resort added a huge new hotel wing at the rear of the resort which probably wasn’t the best idea in the world. as this just means that there are a couple of hundred more visitors vying for sun loungers on the small stretch of beachfront.
Only a handful or bungalows have sea views but unless you want to also overlook the busy pool area and restaurant you may as well go for a quieter garden room.
The resort is set to get much busier though as the large open area to the rear of the resort, which you see on the Google satellite view, is now the location of the Superior hotel rooms. This huge new addition has more than doubled the size of the resort. An additional pool has also been built here.
The beach directly outside the resort isn’t great, quite a few stones and dead coral at low tide, but a 5-10 minute walk north brings you to a much quieter, sandier area.
Inland, Klong Prao village is only a few minutes walk away – small shops, cheap restaurants, bank, ATMs etc are all found by the roadside.
All in all though, it’s a good choice for families. But if you’re looking at Tropicana and also Paradise then go for Paradise as the beach is far better. Tropicana or The Dewa? – Go for The Dewa, and you’ll guarantee not to have to put up with a Filipino two piece band playing show tunes during your evening meal, as you do at Tropicana.
