Garden Resort, as the name suggests, isn’t by the beach. It is located on the inland side of the main road in the centre of Kai Bae, a couple of minutes walk to the sand.
The area around the resort is pretty built up but noise doesn’t appear to be an issue for most guests. However, it would be better to stay as far from the restaurant and entrance as possible as a bar with live music is directly opposite and the resort also holds regular live music ‘Dancing in the Garden’ nights.
The resort is reasonably priced with well maintained bungalows from a couple of thousand baht/night. Western management ensure that everything runs smoothly. You could pay the same for a bungalow on the beach but it wouldn’t be of the same standard. So, if your budget allows for either beachfront or a more comfortable room inland, then you have a tough choice to make.
In early 2009 Garden Resort came from nowhere to become the number one rated resort on Tripadvisor.com for Koh Chang. Whilst it can’t really claim to be the best on the island, there’s a case for it being one of the best flashpacker resorts and is definitely a good all round combination.
