The (new) Koh Chang Photo Pages

Lonely Beach

Named after Brian and Sue Lonely, of Walton-on-the-Naze, Surrey who visited this beach in January 2006 and won a first prize in a raffle run by a local tailors shop.  Open to all customers who spent over 20,000 baht on beige linen suits and velour ballgowns, the Lonelys won second prize and had the beach named after them. First prize was a set of steak knives. (Don't listen to rumour mongers who like to tell visitors that the moniker comes from the fact that at one time, only a few short years ago, it really was 'lonely' and not an overbuilt backpacker hangout.)

Looking south from the northern end of the beach.

Siam Beach Resort have  a prime location at the north of the beach and are now taking their accommodation more upmarket with a pool and low rise hotel block.

Nature Rocks beach bar at Nature Beach Bungalows.  Also nearby is Lonely Books the best second hand bookshop on the island.

Looking north along Lonely Beach

At the southern end of the beach, this is as good as it gets as far as rooms go.

And the reason people stay in huts like that is because of the view like this.

Pass by Siam huts at the end of the beach and you reach the near legendary Treehouse

It's got a roof, a door and no walls or windows but what more do you really need?

The builder of this concrete bungalow didn't want backpackers to think he'd sold out so kept with the 'no glass in the windows' theme as a homage to the huts of old.

Moving inland the coconut plantations between the road and the shoreline are starting to fill up with bungalows and shops

More liveable huts for about 200 baht/night.

During high season one of the bars or bungalows will be having a party of some kind pretty much any night of the week.  Check out the sides of trees for flyers.

Main street in Travellers Ville, Koh Chang

Not sure what mega psy trance music is but I'm betting it sounds like a robot farting.

More banana pancake shops

And more . . .

. . . and now I'm too depressed to post any more photos of places selling fruit shakes and generic Thai food.
