Koh Chang Maps

This section includes some Google Maps with places of interest, landmarks etc marked to help you get your bearings and figure out where everything is on the island as well as how to get here.

Before you set off on your armchair exploration of the island, see the 'Getting Here' page for info about, unsurprisingly, how to get here and, for those not flying the 'Bus Timetables' info will let you know how long you'll be stuck in a bus station in Bangkok for. the 'Ferries' page if you  haven't yet figured out that you'll need to take a bout to get from the mainland to the island.  The 'Aerial Photos' page will give you a quick overview of the island with pics taken from an ultalight flying machine.

Click on a section of the map below to get a more detailed Google map, plenty of tourist & visitor information about the various areas of the island.

Inland Koh Chang - jungles, waterfalls & insects Proposed new road, partially complete

The main thing to remember about Koh Chang is that it isn't some pissy little Koh Phi Phi-esque island.  So forget all notions of staying on White Sands beach and strolling down to Lonely Beach for a morning coffee.  That isnt going to happen.  It's not just the distance involved, it's also the fact that the road down the west coast has abundant, seriously steep hills that no sensible person would want to trudge up in 33C degree heat.

Getting around requires being dependent on the white pick-up truck taxis ('songtaews') or renting a motorbike.  In the high season songtaews are plentiful, in the low season you'll find yourself enduring an awful lot of roadside waits if you rely solely on them.  Alternatively you could just chill in your windowless bamboo hut and travel vicariously thought the exploits of others thereby conserving your valuable eurodollars and enabling you to extend your Asian adventure longer.  This method is only recommended for backpackers and those on the run from Interpol.  (You'd be surprised how many there are of us . . .  sorry, 'them' . . .  there are out here.)

Start the 'How to get to Koh Chang' page for info on planes, (no) trains and automobiles to Koh Chang and the numerous links on the map and top left of this page for specific info on areas of the island.

You might also want to check if you're going to die from Malaria on Koh Chang or what the weather has been like recently

Disclaimer: By following any of what's written here you're putting your faith in one person's thoughts on an entire island.  These may not coincide with your own.  However, if you're looking for an antidote to all those hotel booking sites that crop up in your Google searches or sites supported by advertisers, then you've come to the right place.  If you've found this site useful and want to say 'Thanks' either seek out Lisa the Vet when you're on KC and make a donation to her foundation that takes cares of all the sick & injured animals on the island; or stick some good chocolate or a  bottle of cheap wine in your suitcase for me.  Thanks.
